@@pinball541 I don't know if you ever noticed this yourself, but I know what mean about the heat there it was crazy hot, When We first moved to phoenix Az. What blow me away was when you would walk past a brick building at night for the first time. was the amount of heat that would be radiating off the walls of the buildings or sidewalks , it truly felt like when you would open up your oven door after you had been cooking for a while . I feel your pain. Take care and please stay safe and well in this crazy time that we are all going through right now

What a gem! I am a wagon lover from way back. I don't need it, but I may be interested in it. Was with Ford as a service manager and shop foreman in Tulsa through the '90's and the 3.0 engine is a good one. Keep us posted.

Every single one of these I've ever seen has the dash pad peeling up. My parent's Taurus did the same thing (theirs was a '98) before they sold it in 2005. These cars have some of the coldest AC I've ever felt. Feels like you're skydiving in Antarctica.

I drive a 2000 Taurus wagon in great condition. (I know its not a big deal, but it works.) I noticed this video about an older wagon and to my surprise its Randy in Oklahoma and no Mike on this one. You have been doing this longer than I thought and keep up the good work. Note: Who cares what the haters think or say about your cars, lifestyle, or anything. They are just jealous and not willing to put the time and effort making a channel on KZbin. But they have no issue taking two seconds to be rude. Keep up the hard work, sorry about your uncle, keep the memories alive and he is never forgotten. FYI- Too late now but if the back window opens just press the button below the glass and it will open. It also has a keyhole too.

The issue with the transmission in these and other Fords is that the transmission needs a fluid flush and change every 40-45K. The clutches tend to gunk up as the fluid ages and breaks down. I had a Taurus, a Windstar and a Crown Vic and the transmissions in all three suffered from trans issues at about that mileage.

I spent a couple of months in Canada in the late 80s and hired the saloon version of that car, I loved it, we still have nothing like that here in England. our Fords back then were known as Dagenham Dustbins as the rotted so bad. For you folks to have a 96 in that condition has me green with envy., give her a new paint job and she will be well loved once again.

In 1997 I bought that same car but with the styled wheels. If I would have known about the LX engine, I would have opted for that model. Anyways, the same night I bought the car I drove it on a 3 hour trip. I lost all the lighting on the right side of the car. I mean the headlight, marker lights and turn signals. I was driving through a dark desert with lights on one side of the car. It was a "fun" trip. When I took it back to the dealer the next day, they told me the steering column had sliced through the wiring harness causing that issue. They installed a new harness and I was good to go. I love the wagon in this color.

Randy - one thing to check, I don’t remember on that car, but there is (I think, going from memory) a multi-function switch on the steering column. That switch can get dirt and corrosion in it over time. Very common on the SN95 Mustangs. You can pull the switch, take it apart and spray some contact clear or Deox-it on it and they’ll usually come back.

Painted and detailed that wagon will appeal to more people than you think with that low of mileage. As a mechanic I absolutely hated the early Taurus. The heater cores were a &%$#@ to R&R. Flat rate was 8hrs or so if done by the book. There were short cuts to cut that time in half.

Airbag light is flashing Code 12, which is low or no voltage to the airbag control module. I think it's under the right kick panel, and you need to disconnect the battery, then unplug the harness from the airbag controller, clean the pins and harness really good, and that *should* clear the light. Might take 3 or more cold-start driving cycles to clear.
