I think the least cheesy, and best way to do this was to lose as many games as possible and tank before the trade deadline, and then get build a really good team. If you lost enough games to make it impossible to make the playoffs but built a really good team post deadline, you wont make the playoffs but will probably sweep the lottery playoffs.
