Merrels are amazing.: the most form-fitting, most flexible, most minimalist. Incredible foot freedom. The latest version -No.5 are more narrow for some reason, so I'm buying up all the Vaper Glove 2s and 3s on ebay. Don't know if Merrell has ruined this shoe forever, or if they will eventually return to a foot shaped shoe model.

Keep pumping out the content man, you have so much value in your videos that have helped me a lot in different areas. I just received those Forest Esc boots in the mail and I've had the same white pair of primus lites for about a year which I have absolutely loved. Also have a pair of vibram 5 fingers too! Love love barefoot shoes. Gotta be the future, cheers mate

Best barefoot shoe brands are as follows: FiveFingers, RealFoot, Belenka/Barebarics, Ahinsa, Freet, Topo Worst barefoot brands: Xero, Groundies, Wildling, Feelgrounds, Mukishoes, Bohempia, Lems, Altra, Vivo (Vivo are some of the best of the worst) You gave the worst ones the most attention in this video. I recommend trying some of the best and detailing those in the next video.

I’ve tried a good number of these but you are missing my absolute favorite brand: Lems! I’ve taken them rafting down the Grand Canyon and trekking the Annapurna region in Nepal. They also work with Correct Toes toe spacers which were a game changer for both myself and my wife’s foot health.

I had the same issue with the Splay Freestyle. I had them for about a week or two and was loving them, then one day I was in a rush putting them on and tugged a bit harder and tore the side of the heel open, even worse than the tear you showed. I wish they had a bit more flexibility in the material especially around the heel to make putting them on and off more safe. Not sure If i'm going to replace them or not, I'm considering The vivo Primus Asana as the new casual everyday replacement. not sure yet.

Totally agree, take time to transition. Our feet get atrophy in supportive shoes, like wearing a cast. Consider transition to barefoot shoes as therapy. It takes time for our foot muscles and joints to strengthen and begin moving again naturally they way they were intended. Sitting all day also contributes as the stiffness of our hips results in stiffness in the joints down to the foot. The transition can be difficult and take several years. But, the foot and our bodies are adaptable. My transition took over a year of pain as I went cold turkey to barefoot shoes. But, a year and a half later, the benefits far outweigh. I've noticed my back & knee pain are almost completely gone. My plantar fasciitis is also gone. My favorites are Wildling's now as they are most flexible. Xero's a great trail shoe and second for me. The Xero/ Naboso sandals are awesome as the texture stimulates the foot nerves like being barefoot.

Thanks for the reviews, this was great! If you like how the Feelgrounds feel through the sole, you may like Ahinsa shoes as well - I have their Fall/Winter Boot and I love it. Ah! Same here: I bought the Xpand shoelaces (for my Vivo Barefoot shoes) when they were still being crowdfunded, I think, and they've been great. For sandals, I like Unshoes, because they offer "custom" sandals that fit the shape of my feet (I've got Roman feet, like about 9% of the population; shoes are never designed to fit us).

From a female, non runner perspective - I have Xeros, Whitins, Lems Primal Pursuit Mid Waterproof, but in the summer I live in L-Run Athletic Hiking Water shoes with knit tops from Amazon. Wide toe box, zero drop, thin, grippy flex soles and loads of fun colors. And, with a sale, I can get them for around $20 a pair, so I can have a few to cycle through. I know they won't last for ever, but who cares. They feel good, meet all the criteria, look good and I can throw them out with no remorse if they develop holes. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars a pair to have barefoot shoes. And they have elastic-lock laces - installed.

I wear my Vivio Primus III and the ESC boots without the inserts. I never hear anyone discuss whether they use the inserts or not. Do you guys use the inserts, or only when it's really cold? I've developed cold tolerance in my feet since I stopped using them and now I can walk in the cold without shoes and still feel comfortable.

I've always worked out barefoot. Did no socks for hockey. My biggest issue is I wear US15, vivo clocked my foot at 298mm, so that drastically limits my options. I really like the splay freestyle plum look and price point but at max US13, my foot is going to be crammed in there and defeat the purpose. I'm happy to know most of these brands last. I hate having to buy new shoes over and over again so in lieu of a repair or resole option, just being durable natural materials is a big plus for me.

Look into Bohempia extra wide size option (marked with W in sizing). They're the widest thing you can buy. No way you won't fit in those. Also Belenka is really wide and Xero is about to introduce super big sizes. Don't trust Vivo auto sizing it's complete garbage. Measure your feet yourself.

I have a question about the Altra's. Do you have to change up your running stride with them like everyone seems to recommend with other barefoot shoes? I assume the transition to running in those would be easier seeing as they still have some cushion.

If you change the way your foot rests your stride will change naturally with practice, but be sure now to injure yourself at first

Some what yes . They are zero drop shoes . But they are a lot more forgivingsinc they are a high stack zero drop shoe . I would just change your cadence . Shorten your stride. I run in super high stack shoes and barefoot shoes . The stride that barefoot shoes have taught me . Has made me a stronger runner . I’ve never had. Shin splints or runners knee to this point . Also the shoe he shoes on here from Altra is the torin which is a high stacked zero drop shoe . If you want a good intro barefoot shoes that will help you transition into a true barefoot shoes . Go with the Altra escalate racer . Although right now you can get great deals on the torin 6 since the torin 7 just came out . But in the end of the day zero drop makes healthier feet imo also a bigger splay
