I've owned it for two months, bought during the tail end of summer knowing that I wouldn't get much wear until it got cooler. I've worn it a couple of times now on cooler evenings and it's still as intriguing and mysterious as it was when I first tried it. I don't see it as "formal" as Ebene Fume, which has smoky character but also some complexity and sophistication. For me Black Lacquer has more smoky incense and resin that is still as intriguing but not as complex. I love the smell, but I'm not constantly sniffing my arm to see if I can decipher the notes. So in that way for me it's more of a vibe rather than an experience. When I want something that has a smoky note but with rich complexity, I go for Interlude Black Iris, or to a lesser extent Ebene Fume. But when I just want a dark vibe, Black Lacquer is going to be my easy reach.

Nice video Justin, enjoyed having some insight into your day. Congratulations to both parents in waiting. I have two little girls, it's life-changing for the better. Both of them love smelling my fragrances too, they go through my stuff and ask for a sniff. In the near future I'll be picking up a Black Lacquer clone from Perfume Parlour; a really good company in the UK and Europe which does some great work. Their Black Lacquer is coming soon. I picked up 5 of their TF creations yesterday (including 3 discontinued) and wow they are all highly potent and well executed: Amber Absolute - honestly think it could be my most potent scent to date, one light spray could be picked up through two layers of clothing. Oud Tobacco - being Scottish I really appreciate the whisky in here. Bois Rouge - reminds me a bit of Bottega Veneta PH Parfum but more woods, spice and less of the softening that BV achieves through its cardamom. Vert de Bois - I can see this really singing in Spring, and storing for a few months should work wonders. Noir Extreme Parfum - seems spot on to me, and I prefer this over the original NE. Perfume Parlour's takes on TF Beau de Jour and Penhaligon's Halfeti Cedar are almost 1:1. Loved them so much I bought the originals after finding good deals. Interested to hear if you have tried the three discontinued TFs: Amber Absolute, Bois Rouge, and Vert de Bois?

Thanks for sharing what you do, I love Jazz. Would love to hear you play Pink Panther Theme and La Petite Fleur on the trumpet. Back to the scent, honestly I respect TF for their fragrances, however, already there are 3 scents with the same functionality, Ebene Fume, Bois Maroccain and Myrrh Myster. Ebene and Myrrh have lots in common, Bois smells different and is unique at least to my nose. So why introduce another redundant option? Will have a sniff next chance I have.

Just smelled this at Macy's. It IMMEDIATELY reminded me of Bull's Blood from Imaginary Authors. Not as bold and much more approachable but very clearly inspired by it, at least initially. The dry down reminds me more of Amouage Interlude Man, but not as spicy.

Finishing up a sample now. It’s nice. At times I get a weird, wet clay smell. It comes and goes and isn’t offensive in any way. I have many TF Private Blends and would like to own this one, but the price per ml is impossible. My 3.4 bottle of Fucking Fabulous was bad enough. This and CREED Adventus Absolu have me mad over the price per ml right now.

When I first got it the first 20 sprays or so the fragrance was very vapid and weak. However, now it is much stronger and complex. Which surprised me cuz the sample I bought before the full bottle was very strong, heavy and complex. So idk. I love it tho.

Congrats are in order here first! :) Yeah, my first reaction to it was a biker jacket-like of texture, very slick and shiny. Or maybe a goth PVC trenchcoat, lol. Seriously though, I love it but as you said, I'd have a hard time pulling it off casually. Although, I tend to dress with shirts featuring at times graphic sharks and snakes so... we'll see!

I LOVE this type of scent and I absolutely love black lacquer. I HATE the performance of this one, though. I can douse myself in this stuff and it's gone in an hour, I wonder why our experiences are so different. If anyone is on the fence about buying this, consider Comme De Garcon Black, they are remarkably similar and Comme lasts longer/is much cheaper. I am usually a tom ford fan boy and I bought this the day it came out, but I am soooo disappointed in the performance. Congrats on the baby!!!
