I worked in an HMV when I was younger and hated it. I think working in an independent would be better though, and having your own shop would be better still.

Delighted to see him mentioning the record not being able to shake about in the packaging. Same with box sets. Put something in the box sets to stop the vinyl from moving around and getting all scratched up.

Try not to slide the record out of the sleeve like that (@20.00). That's how you get surface scratches. That Genesis album tends to always has surface scratches on them due to that type of inner sleeve.
@jhesson2123 ай бұрын

@nigelcampag12903 ай бұрын
You should have asked for the Bulldog Breed LP 😂. Packing the 12" I would have shoved it in an inner sleeve rather than leave it lying against the card sleeve and poly sleeve. Record shops buy collections and end up with worthless rubbish but at least can save decent inner sleeves and reuse them for records that have tatty inners or no inners.

Worked behind the counter of a very large 2nd hand record store for 11yrs! Most days were pretty fun, always helped by a boozy lunch but when iTunes came along the slow decline was horrible. Oh and we used Ronsonol lighter fluid to clean records in a similar style to the video, ignore the pendants 😂
@thevinylhunters2 ай бұрын
Sounds like a dream job to be honest! Though I'm not sure I'll be using lighter fluid to clean my records! Do you have any memorable stories from your time there?

If they sell a lot of 2nd hand vinyls they ought to invest in a machine, not that expensive, get records cleaner and take less time. His prices are higher than online rates, but shops should charge 20-25% more to cover costs and the buyer is not paying postage. Good job for you as you like the pop/rock records that these types of stores tend to focus on.
@mrindecisive100Ай бұрын
Didn't much like the way the guy in the record shop opened and closed the record covers; that method puts a crease in the cover and is totally unnecessary. The best way is just to slide the record in and out; I noticed that you did it that way 👍

Hard business when you own a shop. Margins are small. You won't be getting rich from it. You can only do this when you really love what you're doing.

Complete waste of time cleaning vinyl like that, you need to invest in a wet and dry machine that actually sucks the dirt/dust off, instead of just pushing it into and around the grooves
@h.upmann2 ай бұрын
I completely and utterly agree.
@Arthur.in.the.Fridge2 ай бұрын
Utter bollocks.
@h.upmann2 ай бұрын
@@Arthur.in.the.Fridge The only thing which is happening by “cleaning” it this way, is embedding residue within the grooves. It may add shine, but your stylus will be picking all of that up. For a shop to be cleaning records like this, is kind of whack. If you think that’s “utter bollocks” then I would hate to hear the audio quality of your vinyl, further still, allow a record to played through your stylus.

Please dont spray the cleaner directly onto the vinyl. Spray the cloth and then wipe it onto the record. Not every cleaner is the same and some can have Iso Alcohol in them and damage the record if applied directly.
