Learn what it's really like to be a back-end software engineer as I go through all programming and non-programming tasks I completed this month. Every day as a software developer is different since there are different phases of the software development lifecycle. By taking the average of all the things done over a month time span, it's time to discover the reality of being a backend software engineer.

Nice charts at the end, I love it. A clickbait title would have been more appropriate, because it unveils untold things: "The secret life of a software engineer" or "The truth about being a SE". 😁 Also the summary so true, sadly you cannot be a senior engineer that codes 90% of the time as we all did at the beginning of our journey.

Really well done, a truly remarkable video. Sure it can be boring for those who are not in the field, but for the insiders it is a bit like looking in the mirror..

Awesome summary. I had to do this recently as well, because we couldn't deliver on time. For me it was 50-60 percent proactive time(35% was effective in Zen-coding, 10% bugfixing, 10% collaboration+devops), rest reactive (emails, meetings, etc.) This helped making better estimates. 1 day of work will be 2 calendar days. Are you achieving the goals in the sprints? Do you make good estimates? Are the estimates in complexit, like story points, or you use days/hours?

Also helped in feeling better, because I saw the whole picture, and I understood, I really couldn't have done it that much better.
