It’s definitely a big step to go into feature film scripts. I have only written short films, though my next one is going to be pushing 30-45 minutes. All your points are spot on. The biggest thing is to go with the flow of the story. Be careful with that, don’t let characters change willynilly without motivation, but let the story take you.

Very cool. Glad you are having a good experience. My first theatrical script was a six year journey for me. I actually continued to develop it as I performed it all over the place. And six years later, along with 250 endings later, and after literally writing every single day for that entire period of time, and I mean LITERALLY, writing every single day, trying to make that story the best story I could make, I had a finished script, and ran it Off Broadway for about five months, doing eight shows a week, and knew that this was the greatest creative experience of my life. At that time. I continue to have those experiences now. Keep up the awesome work. Your journey is inspirational.

Congrats on the printed script, Danny! I feel very proud of you! I am also in the process of writing a script for a mini documentary series, so many of the things you mentioned resonated with me. I wanted to share something I recently heard by another creative person: it is not You having the idea, it is the Idea having you. 💡 I really liked this change of perspective as it is very liberating to feel yourself as an instrument of something bigger than you rather than instrumentalize an idea for letting your footprint in the world. Enjoy the next steps! I am sure it is a though journey, but even more sure that you will succeed! 💪 Sending love to you, Ana and Sanza from Berlin!

Love this video! I spent all of last year reading and writing and you hit on a lot of great advice!! Looking forward to what you came up with. For Stephen King's advice -- typically when writing, you're either a "pantser" or a "plotter" (or a mix of both). A "Pantser" is someone who likes to "fly by the seat of their pants" and just jump in without planning much AKA Stephen King. This can be great for stories that don't have complex plotlines weaving in and out. If you're managing multiple plots and world building, plotting might come in more handy. But it's also worth noting that Stephen King grew up writing and wrote endlessly for years before he published Carrie. So his understanding of story is so internalized that it's easier for him (and more fun) to just dive right in. Either way can work and sometimes it's a mix of both. At the end of the day, writing is rewriting. Also, glad you mentioned reading other screenplays! One of my favorite Stephen King quotes is, "If you don't have time to read, then you don't have the time (or the tools) to write."

DAMN, DANNY!! How do you post exactly what I need to hear? I'm in the process of writing my own feature film that utilizes a popular archetype to engage the audience in unraveling the concept of Personal Identity. The 'Pen to Paper' tip was CRITICAL in allowing me to take back some of my power and flow with my streams of consciousness. I also love how you talk about 'WRITING WHAT YOU KNOW'. It connected with a screenwriting interview I recently watched where the gentlemen said, "You've done this before you can do it again. All you have to do is write one true sentence." Lastly, I believe we are similar in our understanding that we can, at times, be our own worst enemy or biggest fan. So for you to say "I am writing this movie for me," was exactly what I needed to hear. Not to make "the best movie ever," but to make a movie that is authentic to my love for acting, humanity, philosophy, consciousness, and self-love. In truth, we can only strive to express the best of ourselves, and that is all an audience looks for when they go to see a movie - an opportunity to marvel at the Subconscious projections of Humanity made Conscious once again 📽 Thank you Danny for offering your heART in this work! (Because I am persistent) Here Is My IMDB: www.imdb.com/name/nm9700456/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0 Cheers brother, let's heal the world! -Benett Sullivan

As a screen writer myself, I can assure you, no one cares about your movie idea. Now, that sounds harsh right? The truth is, getting people to read your script is DIFFICULT and your idea has probably already been written. Once you turn it into a movie then everyone cares. It's common that 1st time writers hold their IP so closely to thier chest. Years later, you won't. LOL!! You'll want people to read everything. Remember, you'll never run out of ideas.

Congrats! What genre did you write in? As someone who has been writing and studying script writing for a while. I would say infuse conflict within every scene. Whether it's something simple like a person crosses a room and runs into a waitress carrying a tray of drinks, to a full on John Wick style fight scene. Also have a well defined Goal for the protagonist, whats at stake if that goal isn't achieved, and a time frame, or ticking clock that creates urgency. He only has 3 days before the girl of his dreams heads off to college. etc... I think you should take a key scene you love, and direct it, then use that as a proof of concept to finance it. Use the power of your subscriber base to do a kickstarter or Indigogo campaign. Good Luck!
