it is a weapon - I had a chance to be a passenger in a Leon Cupra on a track with a pro racing driver!!! Entering the corner at 174 km/h and sliding all 4 wheels and he was still on a gas all the time!!! car is amazing and the engine is by far better than in any french car or Hyundai. I have a 308 GTI and I never have problems launching the car. I clocked 0-62 mph in 5.6 seconds, its feather light. The 308 GTI have a hidden launch control and it seems like this driver didn't know that.

Well Hyundai and Kia have been known to make pretty cheap cars in the past, and it seems like people have gotten stuck to those ages even if those times are long gone. A big point is also the fact that their designs aren't very original either. It's made worse by their fanboys touting how many modern hatchbacks look like Hyundais/Kias when the reality is that their hatchback designs have been heavily inspired from the likes of Mazda and even Ford. Not saying they look bad, I kinda like the i30, but they do seem to have some identity issues design-wise.

All of them are great honestly. I wouldnt mind have any of them. The Civic is a track weapon as proved 100 times, the Cupra should be really close and has one of the best engines especially with some light tunning to reach big numbers...so if you are into tunning, the Cupra is the king here. The Hyundai looks great same as the Megane. The 308 is beatiful exterior wise aswell lacking interior quality.

Great video Mat ! Well done Carwow once again! I've just bought an I30N Performance Pack and I don't regret it for a single moment. It is a great car to drive, very good to live with every day and awesome value for money (in Portugal the Civic Type R is €7000 more than thrle Hyundai).

I do agree completely, the type R is definitely the benchmark in this segment , the hyundai is definitely a very fun car to drive and modify .. however i think the renault potentials are best seen on the track + it really looks great ..

No regrets buying the Peugeot, good all rounder and don't forget how much you'll save on brakes, fuel and tyres due to the low weight. Very easy to get 50+ MPG in the GTi, I really do love mine.

Paul Hawkins and it’s quite sad that many people these days seem obsessed with performance figures and tech but completely overlook kerb-weight figures. Weight reduction not only puts less strain on brakes, tyres, clutch etc, but it does indeed improve fuel economy and massively enhances the driving experience!

Although this biased and subjective test says otherwise, the 308 is actually better than the i30N and Megane in any possible way (cheaper, lighter, faster, better mileage, better in track) as you can check for yourself on other youtube reviews on track or comparing the official figures. I felt ashamed at the 308's poor start in the first test, which never happened in other reviews where it kicks the Hyundai's ass. They should have repeated the test or chosen another driver. Besides, if the i30N was built by a former BMW M member, the 308 gti was made by Peugeot Sport which probably know a thing or two about cars after winning LeMans and the Dakar... and many other top class competitions. Yeah, the Peugeot is the older of the pack and it lacks the bells and whistles that the other have, but it's also cheaper.

The Cupra R has always been underrated. Nice to see Hyundai in the game offering customers another option in the market. 205 GTI will always be my favourite Peugeot hatchback. Megane is nice but grew up when the Cilo had the V6 and also prefer some of the older Civic Type R's too.

Love my type r and everybody that sees it in the flesh says how good it looks especially from the front, very mean with daytime running lights on. Yes from side on spoiler does look a bit big but from most other angles looks great, horn is a total embarrassment though lol

Type R is very good but I don’t know in Europe but here in Canada the i30 (looks different way better and I think slightly faster called Veloster N ) cost 20-30,000$ cheaper compare a type R which I have seen some new one for over 70,000$. Veloster N for 40k or type r for 70k that ain’t even close to be comparable for that price gap.

Regardless of the results and opinions. I bought the 308 gti. And I’m not disappointed. My second choice be the cupra if it had a glass roof. Same for the i30n since they do have sunroofs in Australia. The Megane does but it’s kinda pricey to be this bad.

HeavyDutyTraining Actually in many ways it’s better than the 306 (although the 306 was a superb car) but this 308 has 100bhp more and is actually a similar kind of weight! Plus it has a brutal mechanical diff which gives it loads of front end bite!

Good thing to take note is modifying/tuning these cars, things like the cupra and Honda I know have very expensive parts and require a lot of the heavy work done to start remapping and getting that power (clutches etc) I actually rate the i30N the most out of these, great sound, best for practicality/efficiency, hands down best interior with a very expensive feel, almost everything in Alcantara, very modern and expensive feeling. I’ve seen some 380+ and they’re nothing short of weapons.

I agree, the engine is so disapointing, at least on the non-trophy, it seems like the car is trying to not be too hard on Co2 and things like that, the cars in france are having big taxes even without that much HP. Strangly enough the Trophy version, with +20hp, is also WAY more taxed (+10.000€...what a shame for car enthousiast) so maybe the engine is also more engaged ! Hope so...

Ye, the regular Megane RS is kinda like a Golf GTI, not fully hot-hatch. Trophy version will be the shit. Just like you wouldn't compare the Megane 3 RS 250, the first version, to the latest 275 Trophy, totally different cars.

I actually like the sound coming from the exhaust. It is not artificially manipulated like the i30n's for example. 308 is not a poser or a wannabee. What you hear is what you get.

The problem with the civic (also any ford RS) is that they will always be expensive even 2nd hand, as the trend to convert these cars into collectable cult cars seems to be increasing. The 308 GTi is great value 2nd hand, eventually the Hyundai also will be. But the Megane looks the best and it's performance deficit is irrelevant on the road.

308's corner speeds are very high. It begs for a good driver though. The engine isn't a torque monster, but really lends itself to be handled like a rally engine. High RPM all day long. If you can properly rev-match and heel-toe, you can use it's agility and dynamics to make up for it's lack of muscle compared to the Cupra and the Type R. It is in a completely different league than a Golf when it comes to fun and drivers reward. That engine is just fantastic. 270 hp from a 1.6. Because of it's lightness it revs quick, and it feels alive all the way till redline. The only thing it kind of lacks is a proper handbrake instead of the e-brake. But you can still do "handbrake" turns with it. It has a special lightweight torsion beam setup in the back, which makes it very easy to lift-off oversteer through corners. It's a drivers car, a real athlete, not an amateur on steroids that may perform better on the 1000m but then shows it's lack of training and falls behind on an obstacle course.
