Some people do those things on purpose to get the cars cheaper aka leave ignitions on and windows open hoods open doors open as you mentioned.. I’d go around too and close a doors etc. Good on you randy for closing them and looking after the cars

Yes. As long as it doesn't have the Strawberry Milkshake Of Death (SMOD) and he wouldn't know because the transmission dipstick is bolted down on those so you can't check it without unbolting it which he can't do.

Ok here in the Philippines, the Nissan Frontier is known as the Navara. These pickups are only available in a crew cab configuration, and only available in a turbo inline 4, whether its RWD or 4WD.

They are great trucks. I've had two also, as well as two Xterras. Still driving my '19 Fronty and my '10 Xterra. The Xterra is my profile pic. 05 - 09 had bad radiators that can ruin the transmission by mixing coolant into the transmission fluid. Other than that they're great vehicles.

@@neilforrest2677 Nice, a first gen. As long as you change the timing belt on time and do regular maintenance those are pretty much bullet proof. I had a 2001 Xterra for 8 years and put over 100k miles on it (same powertrain as your Frontier) it was a solid truck, until it got wrecked.

I have used peddle once to get rid of my old car I had it was junk & I told them that & they gave me cash for it. The tow truck driver told me that they where going to crush it & I was happy for that because that car should not be on the road anymore

2005-2009 Frontiers with the automatic transmission had problems with the transmission cooler in the radiator leaking coolant I to the transmission fluid which destroys the transmission. Same problem on the same year Patherfinder and Xterra with the 4.0 and automatic. I can see the part number sticker on the top tank of that radiator on the video. It's the OEM radiator. At 250k miles, I bet it's got SMOD if the integrated cooler isn't bypassed. Upper intake has to come off to change passenger side front plug/coil. Also the coolant tank on those is pressurized so the radiator cap actually isn't meant to be removed. You check level and top off from the reservoir/tank.

-If I couldn't check the transmission fluid to verify no SMOD, I wouldn't touch a 2005 to 2009 with a ten foot pole.- Actually, just checking the fluid isn't enough. Lots of folks try to save them by flushing the fluid. It needs to be driven to know for sure. Those years also had issues with the secondary timing chains destroying the timing chain guides which causes a loud whine in the engine. The good news is, that truck in the video doesn't have the whine, so that's probably been fixed at some point.

Plus one on both of these comments, just Google Nissan class action lawsuit. I have an 07 frontier and my bil has an 07 extera, his has way more miles than mine and when his transmission went at 80k I looked up the issue and emediatly bypassed the radiator cooler. That was at 44k and have not had an issue. It seems that it was serviced regularly and as long as there is no noise from the timing chain you should be ok. Lack of maintenance is what kills these engines.

@@kenalvord8411 Yep. I’ve had two 2nd gen Frontiers (still have the second one and don’t plan to ever sell it. 2019 SV 4x4 Crew Cab bought new. The last of the true 2nd gens). I also have a 2010 Xterra OR. They are great vehicles, and if you get a pre 2010 that has been bypassed, or had the radiator replaced and regular maintenance or a 2010+ it should run forever with routine maintenance. I had a co-worker that had a 2005 Frontier that the timing chains whined really bad on and he drove it like that for probably 100k miles. Not recommended, but its a testament to how well made the VQ40DE engine is that it can run that long with bad timing chains and guides!!

@@Mike.D.843 post 2010 Nissan finally fixed the radiator issue, my bil is still driving his 07 with over 230k and ill probably buy it from him when he finally trades it in. Its been dealer serviced since new. The last time he went shopping the y were going to give him around 1500 for it and I told him I'd give him 1600. That was 3 years ago! 😆 I still have mine with under 70k but I work it, push snow and pull trailers. I stick with recommended hd maintenance and mechanically it's fine but in the northeast the tinworm has started to take its toll.

@@kenalvord8411 I'm planning to change my radiator in my 2010 Xterra this weekend, just in case. it did have the warranty enhancement for SMOD, but so far, thankfully, I haven't had any signs of it. I am going to swap it out proactively - I'm tired of gambling. Mine was built 12/2009 and It's got the radiator part number that has a handful of cases of SMOD reported, so not the worst odds, but also not a guarantee not to get it either. I also read somewhere (either on clubfrontier, or thenewX forum) that the VQ40DE built for the 2010 Model year vehicles and up also had the revised secondary timing chains and guides so those engines wont have that problem either, just a tip for anyone who might read this and wonder about that issue.

That is the thing I don't like with the oil dipstick on the frontier we have to twist and screw around with it. But nissan knows how to build a truck. The airbag light is a glitch that happens in the older frontiers. Have to turn the key off count for 4 or 5 seconds turn the key on the accessories setting wait to see if the light is still flashing and if so repeat until it stops.

The 05 to 13 frontiers and pathfinder with the 4 liter have a bad habit of mixing the coolant and trans fluid. They can also have bad chain guides. The fuel tank senders also go bad. Ask me how I know. That said, the cost of fixing those can be low if you catch it soon enough. Otherwise, a new or good tranny can cost ya, and a broken chain- good luck.
