The reason Iago’s such a great villain and remains so is because he’s someone we all meet in our lives; a trusted friend who stabs us in the back then twists the knife. Sociopaths and psychopaths who won’t hesitate to ruin our lives for no reason at all, or at least, one we don’t understand. That is something that transcends all cultures; the ultimate betrayal.

What makes Iago such an incredible villain to me is that he isn't evil simply for the sake of being the bad guy; he has genuine and understandable human reasons as to why he despises Othello. Additionally, unlike most antagonists, Othello does not base his actions in haste and rage, rather he values a cunning wit as a means to accomplish his goals with a deft hand. Without Iago, there is no Joker, there is no Palpatine, no Hans Landa, no John Doe, no Tyler Durden, Maybe not even Hannibal Lecter.

I really still cannot fathom Shakespeare free handed the plays and literature. Even I have seen phenomenal free handing tattoo artists . I can barely imagine the imaginations able to conjure excruciatingly detailed antagonists , especially when the reader's attention was grabbed still prior to being acquainted with the particular antagonism. I really enjoyed this episode and gonna subscribe for more thank you

The best analysis of Iago I have seen online. Your point as I see it is to dismiss a common interpretation which is that Iago has no motivation. As stated in the video, the play says otherwise. Iago has all the motivations mentioned prior to the final theory in the video. Jealousy, sexism, racism, sexual repression, sociopathy are all there and I would add a will to dominate through the lens of machismo.
