The thing that gets me is about Hancock, and admittedly there are a few things! The main one being though is a mum of someone who’s daughter wasn’t officially diagnosed as dyslexic and dyspraxic till she started university because she was ‘lucky enough to go somewhere where they screened all students and then fully tested if it was needed. This was after many years of trying to get her tested. Her school forgot to put in the exam measures she needed, changed the some of pieces of English she needed to use for the exam the day of the exam and it was suggested to her the day before the exam , she might be dyslexic. Despite all that, she was 1 mark short of a c. The school refused to ask the exam board to relook at her mark considering they failed to put in the exam special measures they were supposed to because of her disabilities. She also has a progressive neuro disability. They said it would only change it by a small percentage if they agreed so wasn’t worth it! She was one mark off a c so in her case it would have been worth it so that was very frustrating. The reason for my rant is this though. Hancock’s says he is going into the jungle to raise aware of Dyslexia so young people don’t have to struggle without knowing what it is or without a diagnosis. How long has he and his party been in government. Would his time not have been better spent lobbying to improve standards in school and ensure all children are screened for these conditions and maybe even adhd even amd saving many children as being labelled lazy, stupid, having no self worth and start raising standards this way. The small amount of money this would cost would surely pay dividends later with the priced growth they keep talking about. People are much more likely to be able to enter the work place if they have a much better level of English, if they are kept engaged because they understand what is happening, and much improved mental health too which would put less strain on the health service and also reduce chances of people being on long term sick too. A win win all round I would think. Part of the issue is though , people don’t want to think long term, only here and now, which is a shame as they are doing todays children a mis service, yet keep talking about how they don’t want them to be paying the debt but that is precisely what will happen if they don’t get a handle on the educational needs of all kids.
@julezpanda142 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you, I've had some struggles with my son to get a diagnosis, but I'm afraid if we don't get the Tories out now it won't matter!! From what I've read lately they're cutting education even more, cutting one day out and finishing earlier, so kids right across the board are going to suffer!!
