When I saw that Jessica had a cameo appearance in Transformers: Age of Extinction, I was blown away about how attractive Jessica looked! I see a lot of people complaining about how she isn't 'asian' enough. Yes, she may not be one hundred percent Asian, but people do not understand that half-Asians probably have a lot more issues than they expect. A lot of people think that it is 'easier' to be accepted into white society if you're half. No, it is not. As a half-Asian myself and growing up with only my Asian mother, I never knew where I truly belonged. I could never get along with either social group because my views on society and life were so mixed. Asians in my highschool would keep to themselves in their own groups and so would the white girls. I couldn't get along with either and I soon started to think that I was not 'whole'. That I was neither this nor that. I want to become a part of both societies and some times I wish that I was just one ethnicity and not two, so it would make it easier for me to decide with which culture I identified with. I learnt the language of my mother so I could speak it perfectly, so I wouldn't be looked down on in her culture, so I wasn't seen as 'not Asian enough'. When I stand with Asians, I don't look Asian, but when I stand with Westerners? I don't look like them either. I have eventually come to terms with how I was born, but when I see ignorant people commenting on how we are neither this or that, or that Asians only like us because we look different? It makes me lose faith in the world and in myself.

+onsoomin Sorry you had to go through all that. :( I'm wondering, did you grow up in the States, or Canada? In the Canadian cities that I've lived in, there seems to be less hate toward mixed people. However, I noticed that a lot of people who have mentioned issues such as yours are from the States. Just curious what the case was for you. :)

Hmm...that definitely is interesting! But, on the contrary, I grew up in Australia! :) These days, I don't feel as if it's that bad considering there are so many now, but when I was younger and even people that are a part of my generation still have this warped view on things.

I can completely relate to this as an half-Asian...we're split between two groups but we will never fit in just one group. I've noticed that mixed-Asians such as myself (I'm half Chinese half Scandinavian) have a hard time being accepted because we're not "Asian enough". Then, on the other hand, my white school friends would say things to me like "you're my favorite Asian"! (By the way, if someone calls you their favorite Asian, don't be too flattered. I was like that until I'd experience another Asian person being called that in front of me. This phrase directly translates to "you're my one token Asian friend" which is annoying. Also applies to other minorities) Sorry, tangent that sorta relates. In conclusion, it's tough and we go through this constant journey of proving ourselves to our multiple ethnicities. But please people! Mixed people shouldn't have to prove themselves. We were born Asian and (insert blank) just like you were. It's a part of us. Don't lose faith, there are other people just like you (psst me haha).

YOU aren't the problem. The problem is with the people around you who don't accept you for who you are. Stop letting immature, ignorant people affect the way you think and feel about yourself. The problem with some people is that they view others through the lenses of race, ethnicity, and the color of one's skin. We should all simply focus on the person before us. Their personality. Their heart. Their spirit. Their goodness or lack thereof. Does your ethnicity determine your compassion for other people? Does it dictate whether you are honest or not? Does it determine whether or not you respect other people? No. Our ethnicity is just one part of who we are.A small part in my opinion. It's definitely not the most important part. What's in your heart and spirit is what is most important and what makes you you.

I love Jessica Gomes. Not love like in love, but love because she is such a nice down to earth person. She is hands down the most beautiful woman on this planet besides my fiancé. The similarities between them being all around great women is why I adore them both. Finally after, 10 yrs, I'll be marrying my fiancé next year. She's Vietnamese, with a touch of Chinese and French. Me, I'm just a lucky White dude, as everyone refers to us white folk. Being American (white), I find it hard to fall on a certain culture. I mean my family started in Europe way back in the day, moved throughout Germany, France, England and later came to The USA. Sometime during, someone met a Cherokee Indian. All I know, my kids are going to be confused as hell... Lol, good luck remembering all this.

Bogus. She is of mixed ancestry and she looks mixed. Acknowledge it. There's something very disingenuous about doing a series to promote Asian identity and then going out of your way to put a biracial girl to the forefront, as if there weren't enough of us Asians in the world. A biracial girl telling us pure blooded Asians about what it is to be Asian and not being wholly embraced by the white Australian community is really freakin annoying. Fact is, she still has the advantage of being biracial, whiter, and deemed more attractive than the pure blooded Asian. And fact is, her mixed blood is what got her to the forefront of the "Asian" community today. Yes she is still Asian, but she is as much white, and for that, her experience in no way coincides with mine or any other person of 100% Asian ethnicity.

Disagree. She and many other mixed race people were born with Asian culture whether you'd like to admit that or ignore the facts. Asia is a very diverse continent, many Asians immigrate to different foreign countries each with their own different foreign cultures. This means that even full blooded Asians won't share the same exact experiences. They're similar but not a cloned copy of each other. Why do you generalize? We're human beings not robots that live out the same lives in the same exact environment. It's true. I'm sorry that you haven't had the experience of being rejected by two cultures. Asian people like you saying that we're not Asian enough, and Westerners staying away because of our Asian heritage. I'd say that's a double strike in our hearts and maybe you should be more understanding. Finally, we have as much rights to advocate for OUR Asian heritage as you do.
