Enjoyed this, thank you. We have the notion of 'blowing the cobwebs away' re: taking a walk when we would rather not bother, or feel down in the dumps 🇬🇧

I live in rainy Seattle without a car. I walk to and from the bus or lightrail when I need to go out (I work from home, so I sometimes have to force myself out when it's rainy or cold or windy). I love that feeling of having a cold face (but bundled up on my arms and chest) and coming into my warm place. I feel alive! I often will open my window for 30 minutes when I return to keep enjoying the cold (while my heater gets turned up). It's very refreshing... maybe I am Dutch!

When its cold, I like to appreciate that's its the tilt of the earth and the orbit around the sun making it all happen, as if all part of some clever design.

Hello, this is the first time your video came across on KZbin. I also am Dutch, born there, raised in Canada but now living in Florida, US 32 yrs. Dutch culture is in my DNA. I get Niksen, love it, am never bored. Gouda cheese is my favorite. Stampot of all kinds 😋. Delicious, tasty, simple foods. The Dutch got it right, thanks for your video.

I prefer the real Dutch, the stuff of what my Dutch immigrant parents were made of.... resilient, resourceful, ambitious, systematic, organized, independent tough, no nonsense, fun loving, grateful, dutiful, loving, brave, accomplished, well read, humble, generous, ernest, grateful etc etc etc Admirable. Gezellig. ♥️🇨🇦

Ive lived 30 years in Holland. Great place to live as long as you are not sick. The spirit Niksen was in our doctor mind too. In the morning, if there were no coffie, in my office, no work was done.😂 Afternoon tea was so important they left work on the desk. Tea time first. You can wait...Not feeling embaressed at all. Great video, thank you! All these are good but I love Niksen because it requires so little but can offer so much. I love going to bed and having time to daydream before drifting off to sleep. I look forward to it throughout the day, it's just me and my imagination. It's a time to ask myself, well what do you really want, how would it feel if you had this or that? Then I can just pretend I have it and live in the dream.

It's interesting, Americans, possibly Commonwealth and English-speaking countries generally, tend to look for these things in "exotic," far away locations; Zen from Japan, Taoist philosophy from China (mostly ancient, not current China) and "Yoga" stuff with dubious Indian cultural origin. But then, for example, when exposed to modern Japanese culture, one finds them to be some of the most neurotic peoples in the world! It seems strange to find wisdom right across a bit of ocean from England. I've come across Danish "Hygge"(pronounced hooglie) The term "Niksen", would hopefully help us forget Nixon, who had more integrity in his pinky than the current... well, I'll not discuss that, anymore, here. It's probably England's historical clashes with the Dutch which has kept us from looking very closely at the best parts of their culture. BTW I've learned to love salt licorice!, although I've been told it was invented by the Finns, from cough medicine. Also legalizing pot turns out to have been a good idea! lol Love from Colorado!

The public transit and cycling are huge. Imagine never having to drive anywhere. There are roads to drive if you want, but you never have to.
@EricaGamet2 күн бұрын
I am American and moved to Seattle, Washington nearly 8 years ago and gave up my car. I can get most places using transit or my feet (and we also have car share and bike share programs if that's your thing). I love it. I could rent a car if I needed to drive, but never need to. I even take the train 6+ hours away to visit my best friend. Now I can only ever live in cities where I can live car-free (which limits me here in the US). Riding transit gives you time to daydream and people watch, too!

Toegang betalen.

It's already bad here. Too many people and a big shortage of houses. That's a big problem so we really have to do something about that. There is a lot of crime. A lot of people don't value our culture and want to change it. There are more not Dutch people in jail than Dutch people. Immigrants are a minority in our country but in jail they are the majority. But when you tell the facts than people say you're a racist.
