i think he looks at pokedex entries of those pokemon of pas gen that he already caught because in each region pokedex entries changes a bit so he takes new informations, or this may be because new audiences may watch pokemon from middle of the series so in order to inform them about those pokemons he takes the watches the pokedex entrie

hey poketuber i have a counter theory against the ghost thoery that if a pokemon become a ghost after death so can they upgrade for example - gastly to haunter to gengar , it means if they are ghost versions of alive pokemon then they cannot be upgrade.
