Freddie was outrageous, that's what he was. Take it or leave it, baby

Freddie Mercury in an interview 10 years later: "If I had long hair and the fingernails and the whole thing I'd look ridiculous. I mean, I looked ridiculous then, but it worked.” 👑🥂😂

He actually looked gorgeous, IMO. On stage and off. Beautiful hair. Mystical black yin and yang fingernails, balancing the light with the dark. I never really liked any of his later looks as much, to be honest.

Those cups are tea, some with honey some with lemon. Freddie's crew set them up for him. One was usually water also. Sometimes there was a beer up there too. This era was know as Glam Rock and the bands wore these crazy outfits, high heels and makeup. Both Freddie and Brian wore nail polish, Brian wore white varnish and Freddie wore black varnish. Freddie also wore ballet slippers with these tight body suits known as unitards, worn by male ballet dancers. Freddie had a degre in Fashion, Design and Advertising and he felt that costuming was a very important part of a performance. If you check out David Bowie, or even Prince, you will see crazy outfits for shows.Freddie wore whatever he wanted and he was able to pull it off. One concert in Montreal, he came out on stage with just a tight pair of white short-shorts, a bandana around his neck, no shoes or socks and totally smashed the performance. The crowds were used to Freddie and Freddie found humor in his costumes. Off stage, Freddie dressed quite normal but have a party or a performance and you just never knew what you were going to get with him, other than incredible musicianship and vocals.

He wore those kinds of outfits on tour in the mid 70s, switched to jeans, then back to the tights in 85. If you haven’t yet, check out their live version from 1981 Montreal. That performance was iconic.

Take a look at Jimi Hendrix, a big style influence for Freddie. Look at Prince. BE flamboyant if that's what lets you, helps take you, gets you to where you want to go. He had a private life very different than his stage life...yet at the same time, Freddie took a certain pleasure of injecting his . love of ballet and opera, bringing elements if into rock. Queen was different (certainly with 4 singer songwriters) but also because Freddie led with bold, big ideas.

It's the 70s, man alot rock bands wore these type of outfits and just a reminder Freddie the singer doesn't play keyboards he plays a piano remember that, the word is PIANO!!!!! Oh and back to his outfit it was a look and it worked for what they trying get across, just like there music and image.

Wonder what people 40 years from now will be saying about young men wearing their pants down around their knees like they have done for the last 15 years or so. It’s all relative to the time period. Judging by the bands iconic and in many ways unmatched success those early outfits didn’t hurt them too much lol. Freddie was unapologetically Freddie and his singing and the bands talent and performances overshadowed anything they wore.

Years ago took our granddaughter to one of our grandson's high school football games. After the game, my grandson was talking to some boys who hadn't played, but were there for the game. We came up and my three year old granddaughter looked at one of the boys, pointed at his pants, and, in a voice clear as a bell, but marked by derision said, "Pull your pants up! That's not nice!" I have never been prouder!

You have no idea of the crazy fashions existed from the 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s...etc. Long hair, crew cuts, and on and on. When you begin to investigate other groups from those years, you'll see that Queen wasn't so unusual. Nexr, watch Someone to Love Live in concert.

No one told Freddie what to wear; he was a-serious performer, came before concert goers to give them their money's worth of entertainment, BTW this was primarily a studio made video AND the hand clappers were folks from the road crew underneath the stage hand clapping up thru holes in the floor. Queen put creativity, hardwork and talent into their productions. When you gonna react to their performance of this track in the Montreal Concert?

You are a bit too twisted about the clothes or lack there of ! This was the 70s dude and the days of "Glam Rock " and many bands were into it. Besides, this is the legendary Freddie Mercury, greatest frontman in history, and Freddie wears whatever the Fuc! he wants. 🌈👑💙

It's the 1970's something I remember very well it's called the fashion at the time and being individual in his choice, the very fact they made thousands of pounds in the UK last summer when over 30,000 of his items ( contents of his home) sold for over 30 million pounds without fees and taxes. We all have a choice it's about the music which the lyrics for this were also sold for hundreds of thousands of pounds, the stage Fred was very different from the private one which is exactly the same for the whole group

A lot of people (myself included) prefer the live version of this song from Montreal, in 1981. Quite unlike the studio version, it's an absolute knock-out high energy performance. Maybe you'll like Freddie's later moustache, Superman shirt and tight white jeans look better than than the floral shirts, ballet leotards and angel costumes in this one! In any case, Freddie had his own ever evolving ideas about fashion and style, and stuck to them no matter what anyone else thought of them. Whatever outfit he wore on stage, it tended to become separated from his body as the show wore on, sometimes ending up for example in nothing but a tiny pair of short shorts and jaunty neckerchief. Off stage he was actually quite shy and retiring, at least with strangers. A very sweet man, much missed by all who knew and loved him.

I’m happy your first listen was the studio version. Way back in 1976, I, along with other listeners at the time, first heard this on radio. That is the best way to hear a song for the first time. No distracting visuals, only you and the song. You have, likely, been steered to the watch the live performance in Montreal 1981. You should. You WILL be impressed. Freddie’s wardrobe in the 70’s was, sometimes, quite outlandish but he pulled it off with great success and charm. RIP, Mr Fahrenheit ❤

If you want to see Freddie drunk check out the official video for Spread Your Wings. They were going to film this video and the video for We Will Rock You in the back yard of Roger’s newly purchased home. They signed their contract that day as well with their new record company and all received large checks. They were happy and celebrating. Unfortunately, it was cold that day so the mood changed and they were cold and cranky. Freddie was trying to stay warm by drinking brandy and got drunk. He ended up throwing up in Roger’s bushes. John Deacon, the bassist had to play the piano with his bass around his neck because Freddie couldn’t play. It’s hilarious watching Freddie try to drag the mic stand around at the beginning. At the end he starts swinging the mic and it’s a miracle he didn’t hit John with it. Video ends with Freddie walking towards the camera with the mic wrapped around his neck lol.
