It is rare for a person to accurately describe the beliefs and practices of a religious group other than his own. I have had enough family member, friends and neighbors who are members of some of these groups and I have attended the meetings and asked questions of the members of enough other groups that I can say with some confidence that you have generally avoided the temptation to misrepresent groups to which you do not belong. Thank you for that.

@@hosha9 I was born in the Midwest (U.S.A.). I have trouble understanding some people’s English, even the English of many of the people in Maine, where my wife and I live now. I also don’t like dogmatism. I’m 77 and the older I get the less I like it. So it didn’t take me long to give up watching the video you suggested. I do, however, want to thank you for making the suggestion. I have the book The Meaning of The Holy Qur’an - an English paraphrase by ‘Abdullah Yusuf ‘Ali and I have read it. My opinion is that if someone reads the Hebrew Bible first, then the Gospels, then the Epistles and then the Apocalypse (Revelation), he is likely to get a very different understanding of the Bible than if he first reads the Gospels and the Epistles. I think something similar may be true with regard to reading the Qur’an (or, in my case, reading an English paraphrase thereof). It seems to me that some Muslims teach their children the first parts of the Qur’an while not putting much emphasis on the later parts. Conversely, some Muslims emphasize some of the later surahs so much as to give their children a very different understanding of Islam. I’m not promising to read it but, if you have a way of sending a transcript of the video, I may find the time to read at least part of it.

@@EmilyS-gk3st Protestant Traditionalist vs. Contrarianian vs. Reformist Numerous “definitions” of the Protestant Reformation describe it as something that occurred in the sixteenth century. Multitudes of people are content to adopt only those doctrines taught by one or more of the sixteenth century reformers. Let’s call them protestant traditionalists. One Lutheran told me any doctrine not taught by Martin Luther isn’t important. Do you agree that no reforms are important except those adopted in the sixteenth century? Have you read or heard that the Pilgrims who came to North America aboard the Mayflower and settled in what is today Plymouth, Massachusetts adopted several additional reforms? Some people learn about the beliefs and practices of the seventeenth century Plymouth colonists and conclude that the ideal religious perspective is to discard every doctrine of the Roman Church. For our purposes here, let’s call such people “contrarian”. Do you agree with the contrarians? Because I don’t agree with either the protestant traditionalists or the contrarians, I find it difficult to describe my perspective on this subject. I’m considering calling myself a “reformist”. Many people have been taught that Jesus discarded the religious beliefs and practices and prohibitions of the Hebrew patriarchs and prophets of antiquity in favor of an entirely new religious system. I don’t agree with that either. Instead, I think of the teachings of Jesus as building on - even enhancing - the faith of Abraham. I think of the Wesley brothers as building on the faith of Martin Luther. And I think twenty-first century protestants should continue the reformation by building on the reforms with which we agree but without necessarily discarding ALL of the beliefs and practices and prohibitions of previous generations. Most people who agree with me about this will, of course, not call yourselves “reformists”. You probably don’t want to have to explain the sense in which you are using that word. I, for one, am not comfortable with any of the labels with which other people are comfortable. I called myself a protestant for several decades but almost everyone else thinks that means I’m a protestant traditionalist or a contrarian. So far as I know, “reformist”, isn’t a label adopted by someone else. If I do begin describing myself that way, how long do you think it will take for someone else to try to define it in a way entirely different from what I intend it to mean?

@@rogermetzger7335 I was more talking about your original comment on the top, I hardly read what you said in the second one. I watched this video all the way through, and I don't agree with all the doctrines discussed, but I do agree it's more common for people to misrepresent a faith they're not a part of than represent it objectively like they were here. In answer to your questions: 1.-Of course I consider reforms after the 16th century important! I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which was founded in 1830, but I believe is Christ's original Church restored to the Earth. 2.-I don't know what reforms the early American Pilgrims did, so I can't say whether or not I agree with them. I may look into it! I don't agree that Jesus was tossing aside everything the Hebrews had, either. In fact, in my reading of the New Testament, it seems He had great respect for the Law of Moses. What Jesus didn't have respect for was the hypocrisy that the Jewish leaders of the time had. I agree with you on that Jesus' teachings build on the Law of Moses rather than tear it down!

The central thing that is always overlooked in explorations of Christianity is that most people are the denomination they are simply based on what church dominated the country that the majority of their ancestors came from. Only people who take the time to ask themselves "hey...does this denomination REALLY teach what I believe ?" are ones who might switch from what was handed down to them. Either that or they may switch because they married someone from a different denomination, and they just agree to do so to keep the peace with their spouse. Roughly and generally speaking, if the majority of your ancestors came from Ireland (except for Northern Ireland), Italy, Poland, France, Belgium, southern Germany or Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Czechoslovakia or if you are Hispanic, you will almost always be Roman Catholic and never question it. If they came from Greece, the Ukraine, Russia or Serbia, you will be Eastern Orthodox. If they came from northern or central Germany or the Scandinavian countries, you will be Lutheran. If they came from England or Wales, you will be Episcopalian or Methodist, or perhaps Baptist if you live in the southern states in the US, or you are living in the state of Utah, you will most likely be a Mormon. If they came from Africa and you are Black, you will probably be Baptist, Pentecostal or Methodist. If they came from Scotland or the Netherlands or are Scotch-Irish from Northern Ireland, you will be Presbyterian or Reformed. And so on and so forth. And in almost every case, you will never question if the given denomination teaches what you truly believe.

@@Shindler39 Good on you for continuing to search Shindler. I think of it a bit like a pixelated photo. As the pixels get smaller and smaller, the detail becomes clearer and clearer. @@Shindler39 Yes I have been Shindler. When I was getting married however, my fiancé went to a Pentecostal church (she had been raised Catholic and had been drawn away by her sister in law) so I went along a few times with her. To be blunt, all that seemed to happen was that they sang a few pop songs over and over and over for what seemed an eternity, then they were given what I call an "Amway" sales talk that lasted for forty minutes and that was it. I find it telling that all those churches have a "stage" where we have an altar which to me sums it up. Because she had left the faith, it made me research what it was that they were being taught and why - this was before the internet - so I managed to track down a book called Catholicism vs Fundamentalism which really explained the differences beautifully, including all the scriptural references that the Church draws on to arrive at the Catechism. One of the things that fascinated me was that she had obviously been indoctrinated about all the "evils" of the Catholic church and yet I had never once heard anything "anti Protestant" preached in all my years of attending a Catholic Church, so I was at a complete disadvantage to begin with. All I really knew about Protestantism was that there were a multitude of different denominations and they couldn't agree among themselves, except that they didn't accept the authority of the Pope as head of the Church, they didn't believe in the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist and that some of them didn't believe in the baptism of infants. That was about it really. On the few occasions I had been in a Protestant church (with the exception of the Anglicans) they were very plain and dull and certainly didn't move me spiritually in the way a Catholic church does. While many people criticise the Church for its art, most forget that it stretches back into the dark ages as a way of telling the stories from the bible to people who couldn't read. Similarly, the churches were built by the local people who gave what they could to try to glorify and honour God and looked on it as the one piece of true beauty they could enjoy in their hard life. So while people criticise "the Church" for its wealth, it is owned by the very people who participate and has been accumulated over centuries. When, a few years ago we went to Rome and visited St Peters, I can recall thinking to myself "This is mine!" Who are we to disparage and belittle the faith of those who have gone before us? Beauty is a gift from God, as are our talents. Look at the music that has been written for the Church - it is just one expression of art as sculptures, architecture and painting are all other expressions, equally valid. So by using our talents in this way to honour God to me just makes sense. Lastly, there are now so many really coherent and respectful Catholic apologists you can watch on KZbin who can explain the faith and refute the disinformation (or in newspeak "Fake News") I would encourage you to really research into the explanations they give to Protestant objections. I believe you will discover a richness and beauty in the faith that is there for the asking, which goes back to my original point about the pixelated photo. Why eat at McDonald's when there is a Michelin starred restaurant right next door...

@@Shindler39 If you want to grow as a Christian WITHIN the Church, have a look at all the programmes they have to offer - retreats, study courses, both online and if you are lucky at a physical location near you. There is a wealth of stuff available but sometimes I think the Church has gotten so well organised with it, it is too "corporate" and feels removed from the day to day experience of an average parishioner. It is yours to discover though. For me, it really comes down to a matter of Sanctification. We are on a spiritual journey through our lives here on earth trying to become like Christ. Each time we sin, it slows down our progress towards total holiness. That's why I so appreciate the sacraments the Church offers - Holy Eucharist, Confession and absolution, Marriage - and who wouldn't want to have Annointing and Last Rites? This is all part of the richness of the faith that you simply don't get in Protestant churches. It's a bit the same with the idea of Purgatory, (you know the one - ask your Baptist friends and they will have a heart attack LOL) but I really believe that when we leave this world, as believers, we are drawn to God, but first we are confronted by those things that maybe we never truly repented - pride being foremost among them. This realisation of those transgressions makes us ashamed and gives us the opportunity to truly and fully repent before God. That's what purgatory means to me. The final cleansing before being one of the saints. Therefore the further along we are on our spiritual journey here on earth, the less we have to confront when we finally get to the other side. All the tools in the Church help in this journey and there are so many more of them than what I see in any Protestant Church. It's like trading down from a Mercedes to a Hyundai - they are both cars, but we all know which one we would rather have. Lastly I would say to you, don't let the sin of pride get in your way - if in your heart you are being drawn back to the faith, then swallow your pride and embrace it. You will get even more out of your journey back into the Church having stepped out - just re-read the story of the Prodigal Son. I am praying for you...

Jonathan Barb - I was raised in a Presbyterian church, but the definition/description of "predestination" provided in this video differs from that which I was taught at my church. Since you are a Presbyterian minister, perhaps you can enlighten me. The way I understood it, Presbyterians believe in predestination in the following way (I'll articulate it in my own words and trust that you can place it into context with the official wording) - We are beings with free will. Some will exercise that free will to do good things; others will exercise it to do bad things. But since salvation is determined by faith and acceptance of Christ as our savior, our chosen acts (good or bad) are not determinant. That is, nobody is predestined for salvation based on acts or behaviors. Nor are we predestined at birth. A person becomes predestined for salvation upon accepting Christ and, by extension, accepting the role as a an agent of God. That person, now predestined for salvation, exercises free will. Of course, our savior would prefer for that person's exercise of free will should be to commit acts of good. But whether the acts of this person are good, bad, or mediocre, God uses those acts to bring other souls to Christ. In that way, the predestined soul is an agent of the Trinity. And because he/she has made the conscious decision to accept Christ, that acceptance is what leads to salvation. Is this the way the Presbyterian Church still teaches it? I ask for your input because I have been overseas for almost two decades - far from any Presbyterian congregation. I truly have almost no connection to that church anymore.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who has been immersed in the religion her whole life, I can say that the religion you called the slang term "Mormon" is very much a Christ-worshipping faith. The term "Christian" defines a follower of Christ, yeah? Well, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints very much encourages following Christ's teachings. Thus it is very much a Christian faith, although it may be a little different from the others doctrinally. If you don't believe me, why don't you look into the religion itself through the scriptures it teaches from? They encourage reading from the Bible. That much you can relate to. The Book of Mormon is about the ancient Americans, and is very much centered around Christ. The things it teaches are very much in harmony with what the Bible teaches.

What "Speaking in Tongues" originally & actually was & is / mean(t/s) to speak to the Audience in their Tongue; as they speak. That is, in such a way as they would in their own home. And those who have eyes to see and ears to hear in order to, "read the room" so-to-speak, do that more easily. Today, we call that, "Code Switching". Getting up in front of everybody and trying to play Van Halen's "Eruption" on the mouth organ may have a personal benefit and even a social benefit but, that's not what Speaking in Tongues truly is. It is the way in which the Conveyor of the Word is best presented as Shepard and Angel.

I am Pentecostal as well but belong to Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee). The snake handling churches branched off from us in the early 20th century (as well as several other Pentecostal churches). A previous location of my church was about half a mile from a snake handling church but never was tempted to go into one. There are enough snakes in the (collective) church as it is.

The Catholic Church has always taught that you can not buy spiritual things although certain clergy at the time of the reformation may have pushed the idea, official Church teaching has always and always will be to the contrary. God gave us one Bread( the Eucharist) and made us one body( The Roman Catholic Church). He doesn’t desire us to not know what the scriptures and traditions teach so he gave the Magesterium to be his voice concerning faith, morals,doctrines, and dogmas (Mathew 18:18).

@kim burley if the church Jesus Christ started was not the Catholic Church show me the church he started historically from the beginning from one century to the next. Remember any Protestant Church started after the year 1520. As far as murder and pedophilia it is much more prevalent in Protestant churches than in the Catholic Church and that you can find that with a simple Google search. Uneducated people like you say such things. Murder and pedophilia is wrong no matter where it's at including the church Jesus Christ started
@zacharyvandress1120

@kim burley you keep saying pedophile priests insinuating all priests are pedophiles. This shows your nonsense. There is more pedophilia hands-down in Protestant churches. This is fact and can be found by a simple Google search. I asked you to show me the church Jesus Christ started. It isn't an invisible Church. It was very visible starting with the apostles being the first Bishops. The Bible clearly states various churches in various cities. You are the one who is talking nonsense. This church started by Jesus Christ will be protected by him till the end of time. The only church started right from the beginning and can be seen in history is the Catholic Church. All Protestant churches of which you are part of started after the year 1520 because of Martin Luther's heresy. That bothers a Protestant like yourself quite a bit and this is why you say the nonsense you do
@zacharyvandress1120
@zacharyvandress1120 5 жыл бұрын
@Asaph Vapor the problem is Martin Luther's idea of justification did not come from the Bible but himself. You will not find Bible alone or faith alone for salvation in the Bible. As a matter of fact until the Catholic Church put the Bible together in about the year 400 ad Christian teaching was done by the church through sacred tradition. Jesus Christ never says everything you need to know will be written down in a book nor does his apostles. Faith alone is not in the Bible or was ever said by any of his apostles it always was faith and works together for salvation. Protestants like yourself are taught that Catholic Doctrine is not biblical when in fact everything the church teaches is in the Bible. Martin Luther did no Christian any good by his heresy. He separated Christianity through his Satan inspired idea of justification and you say that is good You are implying that Jesus Christ started a church and then forgot about it till Martin Luther came along 1520 years later. Baloney, he said he would protect it till the end of time and the Catholic church has stood this promise no matter what people like you say. Every Protestant church was founded after the year 1520 and the church you belong to today was founded by a man not Jesus Christ or the apostles. By the way, what Protestant Church do you belong to and why do you think it is the church started by Jesus Christ?
@zacharyvandress1120
@zacharyvandress1120 5 жыл бұрын
@Asaph Vapor one doctrine of faith that is in the Bible is the authority of the church. The Bible is all truth but is not the only truth it was never meant to be that. You are taught as a Protestant that scripture alone for everything you need to know and you disregard the authority of the church. Martin Luther did the same thing. New doctrines weren't invented. That is Protestant nonsense again something you were taught. I noticed you didn't tell me your Protestant denomination and why you think it's the church founded by Jesus Christ. Instead you say the Catholic Church is not the church founded by Jesus Christ when history shows it was
@zacharyvandress1120
@zacharyvandress1120 5 жыл бұрын
@Asaph Vapor all authority comes from God. Jesus Christ as God on Earth established his church and it's a visible Church. The apostles were the first Bishops and they anointed their successors who were the Bishops and Priests of the church. The church had structure and this is evident in the scriptures. The apostles defined Doctrine early on and there is an unending chain that can be seen in the Catholic Church which is the universal church. You still did not give me your Protestant denomination apparently you are ashamed of it

To any Jehovah’s witness I ask how does Daniel 10:13 effect the way you see Jesus? The verse says: “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.” So is Jesus just one of the chief princes? I encourage you to read this verse, in context, and understand who and what Jesus really is. Colossians 1:16-17 "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” This verse shows that even Michael was created by Jesus. I pray that your eyes will be opened to who He is.

In other words, all came from the Catholic Church at some point... To me, a Church preceding all other "splits" have to be the one created by Christ originally. Scripture doesn't mention the need for future splits from the existing Church; on the other hand, plenty of warnings against false teachers. _(All protestant denominations have a man responsible for their creations, and most take place in modern days)_ Paul also states that there should _not_ be any schism among the faithful, so based on that, the actions of Luther and other reformers are highly questionnable; God never abandoned his people in times of error; he kept the same order of things but replaced leaders in their office. (Moses, David, Salomon, etc).

@Asaph Vapor Get your facts straight, Asaph. Acts 11: 26 mentions that THOSE in the Church were _called_ Christians (in Antioch). It was in no way the "name" of the Church. *Funny thing though:* The BISHOP of Antioch was Ignatius of Antioch, around 100 AD. He was taught the faith by John the apostle himself... and HE said the following: _"See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is administered either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude of the people also be; even as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. -Letter to the Smyrnaeans, Ch 8, 110~ AD"_ ...The Catholic Church, Asaph, and look at the year it was used. And it also shows an AUTHORITY of the Church, which you deny. (back then THE Bishop was a reference to the Pope) The word means "Universal" in greek, and was already used as a qualifier of the one true Church in the first century whether you agree with it or not. We used this name to identify ourselves, and stand out from those who would "claim" to be the "true church". _(against the docetists, Marcionists, early gnostics, etc)_ If you could talk with Ignatius, Asaph, what do you think he would say to you? Would you debate and deny his insights as well? _(Remember, no biblical canon back then; sola scriptura was not even possible)_

The Presbyterian and Calvinist Church of Scotland took the concept of Protesting to its logical conclusion and have had many, many schisms over the years. While some have re-united or merged with different branches over the years, have currently have The Church of Scotland (the National, but NOT established church), The Free Church, The Free Church (Continuing), The United Free Church, The Free Presbyterian Church, The Associated Presbyterian Churches, and The Reformed Presbyterian Churches. That's before you include the Scottish Episcopal Church - the only church in the Anglican Communion that is not a daughter church of the Church of England, but instead stems from parallel movements within the Scottish church when James VI ascended the English throne as James I. We also have two slightly distinct groups of Roman Catholics. Lowland Catholics, mostly descended from 19th Century Irish Immigrants to the big cities (though added to by Italians, Poles, Lithuanians, and Others over the decades) and Highland Catholics who are the last vestiges of Pre-Reformation Scotland. Because of the highly-Centralised nature of the Catholic church, the distinction is more cultural among the people (though most share the same Football team) We've quite a lot going on, especially considering only around 52% of our ~5M population identifies as Christian (going by 2011 census)

Bible says celibacy is not a qualification for clergies. Mat 8:14-15, Mar 1:30-31, Luk 4:38-39. 3. Catholics say Mary was forever virgin. Yet BIBLE says Jesus had brothers and sisters. Mary was not perpetually virgin. Mk 6:3, Mat 13:55, Mat 27:56, Mar 6:3, Mar 15:40, Mar 15:47. 4. Catholics say confess to R priests in a box. BIBLE says nothing about confessing to priests in a box. Bible says confess to GOD only. 1 John 1:9, Mat 6, Romans 10:9-10. 5. Catholics say drink of the literal blood of Jesus. Yet OT and NT both say do not drink blood. Acts 15, Lev 7:26. 6. Catholics say pray to passed on Mary and "saints". Yet BIBLE says do not contact the dead. NT Church did not record a single case of NT believers asking passed on saints to pray for them. Deut 18:11, Isaiah 8:19. 7. Catholics make and bow down to statues. BIBLE says do not bow down to graven images (statues). Deut 4, Exo 20:4-5. 8. Catholics sprinkles “holy water”. But NT Church of the Bible mentioned nothing about “holy water”. There was no record of any Apostles sprinkling “holy water” on believers. Catholics claimed “holy water” came from OT. Yet Num 5:17 says “holy water” was water used to test adulterous women in OT temple. Hardly the same. Those were for Old Covenant Jews. Not New Testament Christians. 9. Catholics say Peter was pope - bishop of all bishops. Yet BIBLE says Peter was just a leader of the Jerusalem Church. Bible says nothing of the office of bishop of bishops. Gal 2:9, Mat 16:18. 10. Catholics say there is a seat of Peter. Yet BIBLE says nothing about it. Jesus said “not to lord over others”. 11. Catholics has clergy priesthood. Bible says clergy priesthood was done away with in New Testament. There is no clergy priesthood in NT. Heb 7:27, 9:12, 10:10. 12. Catholics preaches Works Salvation (faith + good works + partake R sacraments + submit to R pontiff + be in R Church + devote to Mary = to be saved). Yet Bible says “believe in Jesus to be saved”. Bible says Works Salvation is cursed. Gal 1:8-9. Acts 16:30-31, John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10. 13. Catholics says they must do Penance to atone for their sins. Yet Bible says repent, confess and sins will be forgiven. Catholic Bible changes the word “repentance” in NT into “penance”. Original Greek NT does not use or mean the word penance. Penance = work to atone for sins. Repentance = change of heart. 1 John 1:9, Mat 6. 14. Catholics say Mary went straight to heaven without dying. Yet Bible says nothing about it. 15. Catholics say Islam and Christianity have the same GOD. Yet Islam doesn't believe in death and resurrection of Jesus and Trinity. you said Seems like the Protestants pick one or two truths and reject the rest. Interesting.

Dude. Where are you getting your info? Catholics don’t and never did teach that indulgences were a way to “buy” your way into heaven. Nor that you can buy your salvation from works. Luther didn’t teach salvation by faith. He taught salvation from FAITH ALONE. The Catholic Church also never said that the Bible could only be read in Latin. In fact, Luther wasn’t even the first guy to translate the Bible into the vernacular (German). There already were MANY translations done by the Catholic Church in German. What the Church did say is that the scriptures must be proclaimed SPECIFICALLY IN THE LITURGY in Latin. Get your facts straight dude.

Indulgences definitely were a thing. The Church needed money and they took advantage of people by selling them. The idea was to reduce the punishment for your sins so you would spend less time in Purgatory when you died. The very sale of these indulgences went against God's words and against the teachings of the Church for years before that point. Luther had a very legitimate complaint about it.

WAS THE BIBLE A ROMAN CATHOLIC BOOK? ⭐ Was Bible a Catholic Book? ⭐ The answer is No. Bible was never once a R Catholic Book. Council of Rome did not fix any canon for the whole of Christendom. It merely cited 27 books canon. It's citing, not fixed. Neither Carthage or Hippo which were African councils. Not Roman councils. Bible was merely a compilation of Scriptures that was already there in all churches for 300 years. Any church can compile what was already there for centuries. Compiling books does not make R Church any more superior than any other churches. Neither R Church any Universal Church that it claimed. R Church was merely a local church like all other churches. Compiling books does not make Scriptures inspired too. Jesus and Apostles were already using inspired Scriptures in their days. Not 300 years later. R Catholic ct claimed to come up with the Bible, but too bad. Ot was from the Jews. Not R Catholics. Even nt was written by Jewish Christian Apostles. Not R Catholics. Not Catholics. R Catholic Church came in ad 300s. It has not a dime to do with writing any Scriptures or making them inspired. To claim that is to usurp Jesus and Apostles' authorities. By Jesus and Apostles' authority, Scriptures was already inspired. Jesus did not say it needs to be authenticated by a Roman council to be made inspired. It was already inspired. Neither did Jesus say Scriptures needed to be canonised to be Scriptures. ⭐ Where did Scriptures come from? ⭐ Scriptures was of Jewish Christian Origin! Scriptures was written by Jewish Christian Apostles and Jewish Prophets. 2 Thes 2:15. Not R Catholics. Scriptures came by ad 100s. Scriptures was committed to the Jews. Romans 3:1-2. Not R Catholics. Bible was the tradition of the Church (collectively all churches). Not the effort of a single local church called R Church. Bible came 300years after Scriptures.* Scriptures ot and nt as we see today was already in all churches by Ad 100. Canon came when many churches affirmed the canon in ad 300s. Not the result of R Church alone. The 27 nt canon first came from a Christian named Athanasius. The R Church took it and claimed as its own. 2 more African councils affirmed the canon. Though there was no ecumenical council that decided the canon, all the churches more or less agreed with the 27 books canon. The truth is: there were still other canons floating around after ad 300s such as in ad592 and 1442.* ⭐ Does compiling make Scriptures inspired? ⭐ The answer is No. Bible was merely a compilation of Scriptures which came 300 years before R Catholics did anything. Jesus and Apostles were already using inspired Scriptures. Compiling does not make Scriptures inspired. Neither does it change anything. Scriptures was already in all churches by ad 100s. So there is nothing for R Catholics to brag about. Anyone can compile books that was already there for 300 years.* ⭐ Was Jesus and Apostles already using inspired Scriptures? ⭐ The answer is Yes. They could not be using uninspired Scriptures could they? ⭐ Did R Church came up with the canon? ⭐ The answer is No. ⭐ Did Council of Rome fix any canon? ⭐ Council of Rome did not fix any canon. It merely cited 27 books canon. Not fix. Neither did Rome give the world any Bible. Compiling books that were already there in all churches for 300 years does not make Scriptures inspired. Jesus and apostles were already using inspired Scriptures; unless you claimed they used uninspired Scriptures? ⭐ What about Hippo and Carthage? ⭐ Council of Rome or Hippo Carthage were merely local councils. They only have jurisdiction over their local communities .. namely Rome and Africa. They had no jurisdiction over all churches in all parts of the world. Only ecumenical/universal councils with bishops of all churches had the authority to decide things for the whole of Christendom. Nothing of such happened. Council of Rome did not decide a canon for all churches (Church). Neither was Church of ROme the Church or Universal Church. ⭐ Was there an Ecumenical Council that fixed the canon? ⭐ The answer is No. There was not a single Ecumenical/Universal Council with bishops of all churches that fixed any canon. Not one in Ad300s. The only councils R Catholics make claims of were local councils 1 Roman council and 2 African councils. Local councils did not have jurisdiction over all churches. Neither can it make decisions for all churches. Only Ecumenical Councils with authority from bishops of all churches can do that. Therefore what R Catholics say were just claims. ⭐ Then who fixed the canon? ⭐ Jesus did not say we need a canon. Neither did He say any canons need to be fixed. Jesus and Apostles were already using inspired Scriptures during their days. To say otherwise amounts to h sy.* ⭐ Was R Catholic Church the same as Catholic Church? ⭐ The answer is No. “catholic” in all early writings referred to all churches/all believers. Nothing to do with a local Church called R Catholic Church which came in ad300s. It is the claim of R Catholics that they are one and the same. But we know its not. How do we know? - Orthos also claimed to be the Catholic Church. So who is right? R Church or Orthos? - Bible says Church refers to all churches + all believers. So how can R Church a local church be all churches? - R Catholics can never prove when R Church really became the Universal Church. When asked which year it happened, they have no answer. Their only answer was always “R church says so” or Mat 16 or 1 Tim 3:15 say so (which they did not say so). ⭐ Was R Catholic Church the Church founded by Christ? ⭐ There answer is No. R Catholic Church was not founded by Christ. The First mentioned Church was Jerusalem Church. Acts 2. Not R Catholic Church. The First Believers were Jewish Christians. Not R Catholics. Acts 2, Acts 11:26. ⭐ Was R Catholic Church the One True Church? ⭐ Bible does not say a local church is the Church or the one true church. The Church in the Bible refers to all churches + all believers. How we know? Just take out all the verses the mention Church and Churches in the Bible we will know what they meant exactly. ⭐ Founding of R Catholic Church ⭐ R Catholic Church came in ad 380 when Theodosius decreed the Edict of Thessalonica. Christianity became the official religion of Rome - which later became what we called R Catholic Church. In ad 300s it was called Church of Rome or the Latin Church or the Western Church. It was just a local church. It became prominent due to its backing from Rome and later became part of the Pentarchy consisting of 5 prominent local churches - Rome, Jerusalem, Antioch, Constantinople, Alexandria. Pentarchy + all local churches then formed the Church or the Universal Church. R Church was never the Church.

I personally am a nontrinitarian Christian who is a member of the Disciples of Christ, a denomination that takes no stance on the trinity either way. Many of these protestant churches work on people's emotions. Bible already prophesied, "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry". 2Timothy 4:3-5 "if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God,the pillar and foundation of the truth" 1 Timothy. 3:15.

One thing that divides denominations is how a pastor comes to serve a congregation. Catholics, Anglicans, and Methodists believe that a bishop should appoint a pastor to serve a congregation. Just now seeing this years later, but @20:42-44 there's a correction to Jehovah's Witness belief. According to their belief, God never had a literal son. God created Michael the Archangel in the beginning, who He sent to earth in and became a physical form. While Michael had a physical body on the earth they called him Jesus and after his death he returned to being Michael. According to the Jehovah's Witness, Jesus was was not the literal Son of God, nor was Jesus God at any point as God never gave birth to anything. It is their belief that there is no trinity of God. One God in 3 forms, Father, Son, the Holy Spirit (or Soul, Body, Spirit). This is paramount in Christianity and any protestant denomination.

To be fair to Catholics, the Pope does not decide Catholic doctrine and he cannot change cannon law even if he does make an "ex cathedra" statement. (Only happened 5 times ever) Also, inferring Catholics place human authority as higher than the Bible is a mis-representation of their theology. I'm Protestant, but we need to stop mis-representing Catholics or putting words in their mouth based on our perceptions of them or "what a Catholic I know told me". Also, Lutheran's do not believe communion is literally the body and blood of Christ (transubstantiation). Luther taught consubstantiation, that Christ was spiritually present "in, under, and through" what continued to be bread and wine. So that was inaccurate as well.

Interpretations backed by and shared with the Early Church _(even in the first centuries)._ The New Testament canon was established and declared inspired/infallible through her authority. Sent thousands of missionaries all around the globe to preach the Gospel several centuries before the first ever protestant church even existed. *Joe Smith who lives down the street:* Was born in another denomination which originally spit from X... which split from X... which split from X... which originally split away from the Catholic Church less than 500 years ago. One day though, Joe decided that _HE_was inspired, and not the rest of his congregation. He began preaching on his own, starting a new denomination, calling it something like "New Reconstituted Baptist Fellowship of What Gives", which supposedly holds the fullness of the Truth, even though his teachings doctrinally differs from those of everyone else... and was never preached this way before. Oh, and he uses the Bible, but says the Catholic Church doesn't really understand the book they were inspired to compile. PS: if you're non-denominational, it doesn't change anything: you're just a church onto yourself. To really be saved, then you need to read Acts 2:38. Repent, baptise in Jesus name, and filled with the Holy Spirit is real salvation. The book of Acts is on setting up the church and how to get saved. The books after is on how to stay saved. Read the books of Acts. Read the King James Bible. It is the true bible of today. The speaking of tongues is the proof you have the Holy Spirit. There are spiritual gifts, but that is something different. The first Christians were not Catholic either. You have to look at history and see what Constitine did. Catholicism is very pagan and not Christian at all.

I believe the money from the indulgences went to pay for the construction of Saint Peter's and not the painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.However, Michelangelo was involved in both.But a very informative video.

Our Protestant interlocutors will claim they are members of the spiritual or invisible church when in fact Christ established a very visible and vibrant and physical Church. Catholics do not deny the spiritual dimension of the Church, but in order to be a spiritual member of the Church, one who also be a physical member of the Church to worship in Spirit and in Truth. This video addresses THE SPIRITUAL CHURCH FALLACY, and shows that the Church is to be easily found as a light upon a hill cannot be hidden. @Asaph Vapor The Light is the Church. The Church is the Body of Christ and only those in this Church are members of His Body. "I am the Light of the World......" He is in heaven. But no worries for us in the Church called Catholic, because Christ left us the Church and we are now the light that reflects the light of Christ.

@Asaph Vapor Says: Church is the body of Christ consisting of all believers, with Christ as the head. You are not a believer in the Church Christ called "MY CHURCH." You think you are, but that is the fallacy. You are not one of the saints. No Heterodox are members of the Body of Christ. Acts 15, what would and did happen to the Judaizers after the Ruling Loosing the Gentiles from the Mosaic Law (i.e. Circumcision) and Binding the Judaizers to observe the ruling? Jesus tells us what will happen: Matthew 18:15-20. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to *listen even to the church,* let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Now we know this can't be referring to your CULT because it didn't exist at the time of the Apostles and Acts 15. But my Church did. The Epistle to the Romans and Paul even mentions the Judaizers in the letter to my Church. Every single passage you quoted only refers to those in the physical and visible Church found in the New Testament. And the Roman Church is one of those Churches. Since you are a coward and will not reveal your cult, they we don't know the name of your CULT and thus it follows that you and I both know that it isn't mentioned in the New Testament. Therefore, you are a false Christian. You need to put @R. Zell in your beginning comment for me to see it.

@Asaph Vapor Notice each of your passages are addressed not to believers, but to members of the VISIBLE, VIBRANT and very PHYSICAL Church which are the true believers. The Spiritual Church is found within the Physical Church where we worship in Spirit and Truth. We are all connected, both the saints of the past, the saints in the present and the saints who will be here when He comes again to separate His sheep from the Protestant goats. And according to Paul we are members of His Kingdom since Jesus gave Peter the authority to Bind and Loose on behalf of the Church. Binding and Loosing is the same as Open and Shut of heaven to the Heterodox. Paul casts out several believers into the hands of Satan. That is what it means to be outside the Church or the narrow gate. Protestantism is of the wide gate with 40,000 and growing cults and denominations. Sorry dude, but again, you misread scripture.

@Asaph Vapor You say this: The biblical model of church a SPIRITUAL CHURCH which is the BODYOF CHRIST with MANY PHYSICAL CHURCHES. It's a spiritual kingdom consisting of all believers with Christ as the Head. All the visible and physical Churches mentioned in the New Testament are all part of the same physical Church. You deny John 21:15-17 and Luke 10:16. You follow the Post-Reformational apostles of false gospels. You will not find any person in the New Testament who professed "Jesus is Lord" and wasn't a member of this physical Church which is still here with us to this present day. Its not just Rome. Its all the Churches in scripture. There are no denominationalism in the New Testament. Rome is just where the Ecclesial Authority is which Jesus gave to Peter and the Apostles. So you are again refuted. For anyone reading this comment, please go here to listen to "The Spiritual Church Fallacy." Do a youtube search to find it on the Zell Challenge Channel. Blessings all.

There is a other group . The non- denomination churches . In 1974 , when I was saved , there were none of these I heard of . Now there is probly at least one in every town in America .most are named faith or word churches . Not tied to any central authority but the word of God by faith .

No brother... I was CoC (independent) for 34yrs. They are NOT "the word of God by faith". They EXCLUDE the laws of God and hyperfocus and take out of context the letters of Paul. In direct opposition to what Yeshua said in Matt 5:17-18 they believe the laws of God were abolished at the cross.

How can there be so many different denominations all with their own peculiar theology and different Jesus Christ..... yet they all claim to have a "personal relationship" with Jesus? Is Jesus just telling different things to different people? Or... are there multiple Jesus Christs.... one for each denomination?

The bible teaches salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone. One could argue that despite their different beliefs, their attempts to do God's will and earnestly pursue and treasure God save them, regardless of their denomination.

Most denominations do not have a different Jesus. They almost always differ on non-essential doctrines, or clergy/governing system of the church. In all Christian denominations, Jesus is the Son of God, Jesus died for our sins and resurrected on the third day and ascended into Heaven and one day will return to judge the world. Just because some churches worship in a different way, have differences on non-essentials, that doesn't change Jesus at all. And yes, anyone can have a personal relationship with Him. God knows our hearts and He is faithful to those that search Him with a sincere heart.

People are fallible and we can interpret incorrectly the small things that cause us to divide. Even though division was never part of Jesus's will for us, we fail and misunderstand. It is not Jesus's fault for our lack of understanding.

@@jeffreystern5886 you are right. I never said i was okay with the division. Watching this video actually made me quite sad. I do believe though that it's up to us on how much we choose to grow spiritually and let lead the Holy Spirit in our lives. If we constantly dont let God's Spirit lead completely in our lives, then naturally we will understand things our own way. It isn't right, but I dont believe small differences in doctrine will dictate that person's salvation.

The Catholic Church did not forbid the use of vernacular translations of the Bible. The Latin Vulgate was the official translation of the Bible but other AUTHORIZED versions were allowed. Of course scarcely anyone could read before the 19th century. Those that could read, COULD READ LATIN.
@dboulos7
@dboulos7 5 жыл бұрын
ilmaestro, sorry, but you are entirely incorrect. The Catholic church forbade translating, or even reading, the Bible in any other language than Latin, and this, at the pain of death. This is why both Wycliffe & Tyndale were persecuted and burnt (Wycliffe posthumously). It was only when they couldn't beat the demand for a vulgar tongue bible, that they produced the Duoauy Rheims around 1570+-, and even this was translated from Jerome's Latin Vulgate. But prior, any other Bible than the Vulgate was completely outlawed for a century.

Guttenburg Bible was printed in 1453.......although translations were rare the RCC opposed the printing of the Bible into common tongue so the masses could read it for their own.....King John commissioned the most famous of translations in 1609 from which we get the modern Bible by that name.....the "modern translation Bibles" use a manuscript translated from some of the original scrolls by two Atheists......the KJV translators struggled and prayed with multiple groups to get their wording and meaning right to the spirit of the Bible......anyone using a modern "Bible" is using a counterfeit document MEANT to lead them astray

This is all in all a very good video, but there are a few errors which are to be expected. For example, some of the worlds largest Lutheran churches (former state churches in Scandinavia like Church of Sweden) adhere to apostolic succession and are in many ways closer to Anglican (Episcopalian) Churches than their Lutheran brothers and sisters in for example the US or even in Germany. It's a minor thing and protestantism is extremely varied and complicated. Blessings to you all, whatever church you belong to!

Independent Baptists predate the RCC and therefore all Protestants by MANY centuries...their local churches are autonomous as taught and they believe in the plenary inspiration of the Holy Bible....they separated themselves out from the SBC because the church as Christ established it has no set organization except the Pastor and the Body who all answer to Jesus the Son
