This is really rare interview with Gillan ! It was filmed for French television in the year of 1976, during the recording of Ian's first solo album "Child In Time" with his Ian Gillan Band.

The best lead vocals of Deep Purple.

His life energy is stunning, sense of justice and his courage to quit Deep Purple in 1973, on the top of their success! Probably, he couldn't accept to be dominate by Blackmore.

I love in rock , Fireball , Made In japan , Rat rat blue ... But i think versatiliy along composition skills of gillan with a great band while delivering the best screams metal was in Ian gillan band 1975-1978 . To me its the more insteresting stuff he did ever .

carolyn waltz Gillan IS and always WAS the Deep Purple. DP without Gillan was just a rainbow type lower class band. Infinite album proved who is who.

Ritchie is a fabulous quitar player, BUT as a person he seems to be weird, egoist and constantly trying to have a supremacy over band mates.( including the Rainbow). I think that Gillan got drunk mostly because of him. He have suffered . Try to find out interview with Deep Purples members (Lord, Paice and Glover) to find out the truth.

Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord are Deep Purple in my opinion without them there can be no Deep Purple and what is sad now that Jon is no longer with us is that there can never be a full Deep Purple reunion whether it be Mk1 Mk2 or Mk3 its like when Richard Wright of Pink Floyd died but luckily for Pink Floyd they did 1 last reunion at live 8 where as the Last time Blackmore Lord Paice Glover and Gillan where on the same srtage was nearly 20 years ago in 1993 which is very sad i think

Agree completely. Blackmore and Lord were the heart and soul of DP (IMHO). It is sad that for whatever reasons, people parted ways etc. I am still also a big fan of Gillan and Glover for their contributions and influences to the music industry, but for me it will always be Lord and Blackmore

Cheers mate yes Blackmore and Lord in my opinion were and forever will be the soul of DP i mean Ian gillan ian paice and roger glover are all great but the genius of the band was always blackmore and Jon Lord without them im afraid DP is just another rock band

This man is a goose. Did Jagger ever quit the Stones coz he disagreed with Keith? What about Freddie & Queen, I heard they had many blazing rows? Robert Plant? Roger Daltrey? Bono? All the other great (band) singers have stuck with the 'winning formula', & for a very good reason - it pays! This man put himself before his band mates & his fans, & indulged his ego. Stupid, stupid decision. Imagine all the great DP songs they never wrote, that we never got to hear. No, Gillan's leaving in 1973 consigned this band to the legacy they ended up with, never achieving the fame of bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen, U2 etc. Such a shame.

Yeah, shame on Gillan for not wanting to make a ton of easy money while being a miserable git. He's not a video game character you know, he just did what felt right for his soul.

interesting how he says they didnt want to change -then how do you explain the direction they took with coverdale and hughes ...cant get more radical than that !
@Nissardpertugiu5 жыл бұрын
Sometimes some separations made you realize . Blackmore said in 1973 " Its funny how we re stagning when we want to please people and fans ... Thats why now there ll be change

bit weird him going on about formulas as when asked "why...not play Mr Universe?" He said "we do Bite the Bullet.." "why?.." " Same formula...." He says.....think I pissed him off by saying "that's shite... Mr Universe is better...."

Ian Gillan's "fat Elvis" phase. Gillan looks similar to an early '70s Elvis Presley in this 1976 interview.
