You cant expect the sound to be so great from someones handheld - but I guarantee the rant and Ian were killing it, loved seeing Paul gettin down on bass, all these guys are TOP NOTCH musicians, they never cheat the boards, if you get the time in this busy life, to see rant and Ian, or listen to one of their recordings, you will NOT have wasted your time.

Can you believe this guy is 73 years old! Ian Hunter, is the real deal, and one of the best kept secrets in rock history. As a rocker, At this stage in his life, his concerts are more exciting and better, than his contemporaries like Clapton, Winwood, Dylan, and others. Don't miss a chance to see him on his current tour supporting his new cd "When i'm President". He acts 40 years younger. Pure talent!

Great tune! Can't believe how well the bass solo worked! There was only one Jaco but, I give him a ten for interpretation while keeping the power and flavor of it. He owned it while being respectful to Jaco.

Ian was right. This is a Mott The Hoople song and he wanted to have his first solo lp be a Mott record but things didn't work out. This is definately a Mott song. I love Ian's solo stuff so this was welcome news to me in the 70's. I loved "All American Alien Boy" lp.

Saw this performed at the Astoria but not sure if it was on the tour which was filmed. It lends itself to life performance. Brilliant froth. Astoria long since gone and soon to be replaced by Tottenham Court Road Crossrail station complex. Had so many happy times at the Astoria, Charing X Road - and in the disco below Astoria 2 where I saw Deborah Harry play in her brief solo period.

woweeewow wow wow! awesome performance by Ian Hunter and Rant. I'm not sure if they were as great when i saw them in Phoenixville or New Hope, PA, but I'll take a shot and say that this might be one of the greatest performances of All American Alien Boy that I've ever seen. Good on Ya for posting, Mate!!!!

been a fan since the first Mott album but have always wondered why Hunter never seemed to work with artists he clearly has admired like Fats Domino, Chuck Berry or Little Richard.

Well, he was never going to match Jaco Pastorius, was he? On the other hand, he is still alive and that part has to be played

I hear a girl going "Nope!" during the bass solo. :)

And that solo was originally played by none other than Jaco Pastorius

Damn, the bassist didn't even attempt Jaco's solo... Then again it's Jaco Pastorius

It's a tough little solo. There's this bend right in the the beginning of the solo. The phrasing is nuts. Also can't expect to get the same honking snappy attack on a P bass that Jaco had with his fingers on his fretless and that back pickup. Dude did throw in one of the signature licks Jaco did during the recorded version though.
@courtneyboulds9 ай бұрын
Definitely wasn't Jaco's bass lick, but Ian sounded great regardless!

Substituting the original bass solo for that disappointed me beyond comprehension. Jaco's turning.
