A genuine Gentleman. Not only is he gracious enough to watch someone as talented as Yoyoka do a cover of a timeless piece of music of which he was one of the creators, but he is humble, endearing and generous with his praise of Yoyoka and you can see that he truly feels the joy that Yoyoka feels when she is playing. Mr Ian Paice, Thank you for the music, I have always been in awe of your musical talent, and enjoy watching your reactions, insights and the sharing of your incredible knowledge and experience with the wider musical community, whether they be professionals or beginners. I myself could never aspire to be a drummer, (I have hands that are the equivalent of a dancers two left feet), so i will be a professional listener and enjoyer of drumming. Yoyoka, well done!!! Very impressive indeed, you go from strength to strength in your playing, you are going to be a force to be reckoned with as you continue your amazing journey developing your skills (which are already incredible) and continue to amaze and bring joy to us who are grateful for you sharing your talent with us. To you both, Thank you and Happy New Year!!!

"The best thing is, she's having fun." Exactly! I've been following young Yoyoka for the past few years now on KZbin. Not long after I initially learned of her, my reactions were similar to Ian's but more animated (they still are). I'd be watching her play the drums via my laptop with headphones plugged in - smiling, giggling, even laughing at times. All due to the enjoyment found in watching such a talented young person doing something they were born to do, but more importantly, truly enjoying doing so. That's the beauty of it in my mind. My wife would look over at me and get tickled. Then she'd ask "Are you watching the little drummer girl again?"

I'd forgotten how frenetic the drums in this are. Haven't heard it for about twenty years. Ian Paice, just like the other members of Deep Purple, is an amazing musician & this track is a great legacy in itself. Yoyoka mastered it with her usual, apparent effortlessness & deserves all the praise she receives from Ian.

Music is a huge part of my life - I don’t look for mind blowing talent on TV or radio anymore as it’s just not there . KZbin is the place - bedroom players are frightening. Yoyoka is going to be a monster and I can’t believe she is only 11 years old !!! She makes me smile like nobody else - her joy of hitting those drums is infectious !!! Lovely comments by Mr Paice who I’ve had the pleasure of seeing with Paice Ashton and Lord. Lovely reaction to Yoyoka from him.

I'm 48 and started being interested in drums when I was 4 years old through hearing Deep Purple In Rock and have since tried to approach drums the same way you do Ian, Deep Purple is my life and drumming is my life, I got to a level where I was good enough to play Newcastle City Hall which I did in 2003, best day and night of my life, seeing someone so young playing like that is inspiring and gives me hope for the future of music and drumming, God Bless her and God bless you Ian, I also made kits out of biscuit tins, buckets and broken bike wheels for cymbals when I was a kid lol, loved this video so much, brilliant : )

These comments are awesome! Yoyoka has been one of my fav drummers to watch develop over the last couple years. She is not mimicking, she is channeling and tapping into some masterful drummers vibes. And Ian nails it when he points out most importantly, she is having fun! And that fun is contagious. Was excited to see a reaction video from Ian pop up on my feed tonight after seeing the vid myself the other day. What a cool time we live in in this regard for music. Young players like Yoyoka and Nandi Bushell posting great covers and getting direct feedback from the artists themselves who are getting messages from friends going "you have to check this kid playing your stuff out!".....so fun to watch the full circle nature of music :)

one of the things about yoyoka- aside from her awesome talent, is that she has a proper respect for the skills of those who have come before her. it is common for a young person to think they invented the world. some of us with much less talent, in any field, have had to be much older to realize that.

For all Yoyoka Soma's hard work and great talent, the credit goes to the author. They created this incredible drum part in one of the most creative decades of rock and pop music. You created something that no one had ever done before. That's why I rate your achievement so much higher - anyone with a little talent and diligence can learn the skills. But creating a part like that is still a much higher league for me. In this sense: thank you for all your fantastic drum parts and the incredibly beautiful years with Deep Purple :-)

@Tracy Hindmarsh I think from their interviews the massive drug use from Hughes and Bolin definitely affected the quality of the shows. The rhythm section on those three albums are so much better than any with Glover, IMHO of course . I heard him comment that Hughes was note happy on here, yet if you go back and listen i think he plays less notes than glover does.

Hey Ian!!!! This kid.... no strike that....this girl.... no strike that too...... This young drumming lady has absolutely one of the sickest mastery of SUBDIVISIONS I have seen in a long time!!! And I sit and think of the hours of mind numbing rudimentary drumming and Subdivisions until my hands bled, and yes..... I was certainly older than Yoyo when my band took a go at it, and I must have played "burn" about a gazillion times because that song, on that album, was almost white in color from playing to it over and over again!!!! Of course we don't know how many times she tried before launching the video here.... but I would venture a guess that it is way many times less then me!!!!!! ANYWAY, KEEP ON KEEPING ON BROTHER ROCKER!!!!!! PEACE 🤘🏽!!!!!!!

She usually learns a song in 3 - 5 days. She is self-taught from age 2, so she learns by ear. Honestly she is self motivated & born to play the drums. She now has someone teaching her to read music. 🥁 Try her version of "Put You Through" - Better than the original, & "Char Smoky" where she's got the jazz beat at 7 years old.

Her answer, quote: In one recording🤗 That was the smile at the end for. :) But that is not the most impressive thing. Two weeks ago she did it live on stream, after more than hour of playing. And she didn't play easy stuff. This is the playlist of that live stream: kzbin.infoUgx8Ln7cyb4HyRA5WdV4AaABCQ And I was most impressed with Rosanna, big improvement over first time.

@@pcarhe Yeah I have been watching her for quite some time now!! I soooooooo wish YOYO would retrack Rosanna now that she has really gotten better!!! It was a little off, however... Swing beats are really hard sometimes.... just ask Jeff Porcaro ehyyyy.....😉😁
