Yes quite possibly, and if he injected a bit more of this type of reasonable language into everyday political debate in NI politics then I for one would applaud him. Some of most sensible words I've heard from his side of the political divide since David Ervine.

being a nationalist this man touched my soul with the humility and fresh approach he took to that question . I have great respect for this man and his father now and would love to see iain follow in his fathers footsteps and continue the progress that has been made here in NI.

Can't stand the man but I watched and listened to him. I have a lot of respect for him after this and I'm somewhat stunned by the fact that I agree with everything he said. There's hope for the folks in Northern Ireland idf this continues.

I must admit, when I first heard these comments by Ian paisley I was sceptical, why would I not be,?, but I do believe that he is genuine in what he is saying, but most of all, he is right,!!!

My respect for Mr Paisley and his father has grown significantly over the years. Now the ‘Chuckle Brothers’ have been reunited in heaven, I hope that Ian Jr carries on the legacy of both his father and his deputy.

Wow, this is an Ian Paisley I can get used to. Can anybody tell me how religion is seen in the north these days? I'm from cork and religion is really not a thing to the younger generation. And Really the more honest older generation too. I dont see the Republic as a religious place. Just curious about the north?

It's not so much a question of unionism/loyalism/Protestantism vs nationalism/republicanism/Catholicism, but parochial/provincial manifestations of each within themselves. Or big hearted unionism rather than big house unionism.

When you look back at the history of the troubles there is good and bad on both sides and everyone knows that from whatever walk of life you come from. A lot of stubbourness in the past on both sides and let us not forget all the innocent people who are not here today because of the troubles. Most of the people just want a quiet peaceful life. everyone has their beliefs and are entitled to them, but sometimes you have to say enough is enough when will it end?. We all know the history of the British in Ireland and those that fought against it and those that wanted a British rule there, but when political leaders are prepared to say this cannot go on then something has to try to be acheived. Its not going to make the history of the past better as yesterday has gone and yes people don't forget and rightly so, but for the future generations do you still want those dark days? The British government don't even care about their own soldiers who where sent to Ireland to play their political chess game regardless of who came back and who didn't. When you look at it If the Chuckle brothers could talk to each other and try and work things out says something. I personally couldn't care less about religion because the bad power mad side of religion splits family and friends up, yet those that have the good beliefs of religion believe It will come good. I was born into an Irish / English Catholic family, but to me I am not bothered if you are Catholic or Protestant you are what you are in life. I never thought I would see the day when Sinn Fein and the DUP sit down and talk together. They will never agree on everything but if a compromise can be brought forward then everyone has to look ahead.
