This was one of the first sheet music scores I brought back in the day when I was a teenager, I still have it too. What an incredibly visceral work. In terms of classical music there is simply no comparison, he is really reaching back into the mythic world of our primal ancestors. Atavistic resurgence perhaps. And btw for those that don't know, "Ais" depicts a scene from the Odyssey (the ancient Greek epic).

I saw Spyros Sakkas performing this with the Oslo Phil in the 80s. A formidable voice and presence.
