I think MYP is not a good preparation for DP. In fact, I could make a case suggesting that IGCSE is a better preparer, because the people in it are generally more exposed to exams and around 70% of the IB final grade ( external assessment ) originate from there. In comparison MYP is a joke compared to DP. I just competed MYP 5 and am moving to DP in September. I got a 28/32 for science. A 24/32 on the math section. There was a lot controversy over that. But I think more importantly, I took the dive and got lucky. If I could get a 7 for Biology SL/Chemistry SL, or mathematics (6) it would be for the best. Overall counting the average, I got a 46-1/2/56 in the end, so that is around 5.9 ( core subject ) out of a 7. Doesn’t look that bad. But I’d be grateful if I were to achieve a 36 on the IB, which is my goal.

Right? Like people say MYP is a good preparation but Im in my last year (MYP 5), and its not even extremely hard. Maths in MYP is also not that hard, Ive yet to give e-assessments, but the summatives, formatives and thr 1 exam I gave in 9th, it wasnt hard. But DP takes the life out of even toppers. Ion know, MYP just seems useless to be honest. But our school offers CBSE or IB (MYP and DP) so obviously if I wanna choose DP in 11th and 12th, Ill pick MYP since it is closer to DP than CBSE is, but still.

I’m so confused my school doesn’t explain it well. How many IB classes do you need to to receive the IB certificate. And how does it benefit you?

IB Certificate is pointless. Don't take it, universities won't like it. Take IB Diploma (the normal harder one). You have to do 6 subjects. 3 HL and 3 SL. In my school they make us do 1 science (e.g. chem, bio, etc...), 1 math, one Language A (English) and one language B. The rest we get to decide depending on the options the school give us. Then you have these 2 other compulsory things called Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge which allow you to earn 3 extra points. However, earning those 3 extra points is intensively hard. People usually get 1-2.

FPSReactions explained it really well! Thanks for that :) I think the only thing he didn't cover was the benefits of the IB. Firstly, the HL exams are at a much higher level than AP exams some, like economics HL, are equivalent to college courses. So it shows colleges that you are prepared for the rigor of college, leading to a higher acceptance rate of IB students to universities around the world. Additionally, IB kids are much more prepared for college and develop research and oratory techniques that are required in college. Also, you get a ton of credits to skip classes.

The IB is a diploma program wherein you receive a diploma if you take a certain number of subjects and complete 3 core requirements. Please refer to the ThePrincess' comment above, everything is explained there, but let me know if you need any clarifications.

you can take individual exams just for math and physics to receive the ib certificate for them. there is a mandatory minimum number of subjects for the ib diploma not the certificate
