The Electrolux 302 was in production from 1974 until 1979 when it was replaced by the similar 303 in red and black.

We had this vacuum new when I was a kid. But in the opposite colour scheme; white plastic accents and a red vinyl body. The back end sort of gives it a face, which I have to say on this one is in amazing shape; as long as I remember one or two of the slats on ours were already broken. The thing that's striking about this vacuum and you really see it in this video is how completely the bag fills the casing. You definitely should use it with paper bags and I remember thinking that bag fitment was very sketchy; I certainly didn't want to touch it. Sound is exactly as I recall it.

Some trivia ... 1 - AB Electrolux, for whatever reason, used the 'Electrux' label on its economy cleaners from around the 1940s to the 1970s. 2 - The '538' serial number is coded for the production time of the 38th week (October) of 1975. 3 - Other Electrux cleaners of this style with likely only color changes are the Z91 in Flame Red (1969-71), the Z94 in Windsor Blue (1971-74), and the Z303 in Black (1979-82). 4 - The Z345 sold for around £65, and the Z302 was about £45 (from what I could read of a blurry scan of a catalog page).

In the Argos autumn/winter catalogue the Electrolux 302 is£35.95 that would be £383.80 today, that is some budget cleaner! My wages in 1975 were £23 pw, take home pay around £20 pw

Thank you Roger for another great unboxing and demonstration! The “Electrux” name on the ratings plate is so bizarre! Can anyone hazard a guess as to how that happened? Was it by accident? Surely a large company like that would not allow an error that blatant to leave the factory. I wonder if it was some temporary legal problem due to copyright. Can any Electrolux historian provide an answer?
@ibaisaic5 жыл бұрын
It’s not an accident Brian because I noticed it in the instruction book too. I have no idea why this is the case, but I’m sure I’ve seen Electrux printed somewhere before.

ibaisaic I see. Thanks for this response. Time to consult Google - or better yet: ask the knowledgeable citizens of Vacuumland!

It’s funny, though the British call these cylinders and Americans call them canisters and always called the style that a modern Miele is a canister, we use to now call this style a canister but until the 1970s called this style (hot dog vacuum) a tank vacuum.
@paco33432 жыл бұрын
As is often the case - with time the incorrect use of 'canister' rendered the disuse of 'tank'. This actually began in the '60s or perhaps earlier according to user manuals I have perused. The difference is how the motors are positioned: canister - horizontal and tank - vertical. A cleaner's body size and style are irrelevant.

haa interesting and I always want to ask you this question did ever in Great Britain existed clothing hose on older model of vacuums.Per example in Yugoslavia we had clothing hose till 80s after they start with plastic ones. Clothing hoses are like million times better they have inside wire construction so they are literally indestructible. And NO you should not soaked it in water it could be rusty .Here is Yugoslavian classic vacumm of Progress-Sloboda from mid of 70s ibb.co/sjHNVnW
