Those 80's Artists with Super 58s were beyond amazing. I chose mine over a rack full of similar-vintage Les Pauls. There was no comparison. Fabulous guitars. A bit too ornate for my tastes, but they were showing off a bit.

My friend's big brother had a black one with the dot inlays [around 1982]. He let me borrow it once if I would change the strings and break them in. Held a tune very well and played like a dream.

I've wanted this guitar for sometime now. I've had a difficult time finding one in really good condition. Your playing was very tasteful, I really enjoyed listening to something a little more refreshing . Very nice .

I have one of the Ibanez Artist AR-300 MIJ reissues they did about 10-12 years ago. It was a bit pricey. But a nice guitar.

I had a lot of guitars and this is for me my the one. Nothing on the market like this one. No Gibson or Fender custom shop. Believe me, my Ar300 Prestige 2008 made in Japan I will never give away. Try one of these guitars made in Japan and you will understand.

These really are beautiful guitars. And the 12 string variants are even better. Properly configured with the right effects and amp setup, the 12 string ones are the closest will get to a Rickenbacker 12 string that isn't a Rickenbacker 12 string. Cheers from the Land Down Under.

I had one just like this back in '82-'84 not long after I had first started playing, and I've ALWAYS regreted getting shed of it. Over 40 years and dozens of guitars later, I still think of it like people talk about cocaine, and constantly chasing that first high. Well, that Ibanez Artist was my first 'high' and I've got to find myself another. Great video, Liked & Subscribed.

Yeah they’re an extremely versatile guitar. They seem to live somewhere in between a Les Paul and a PRS with maybe a touch of a 335 in there. Good bit if kit, I feel you pain

@@tylerthompson1842 It replaced a mid-‘70s Les Paul Standard I had been forced to sell, and if I could magically replace either one with the condition they were in back then, it would be the Artist. The Les Paul may be worth more money now but the Artist was a vastly superior playing guitar. Especially for its ability to get a seemingly infinite number of sounds.

Paul - I had exactly the same experience as you with a blue AR150 I had in the 80s. I had to get one again -' found one last year. Not selling it again.

Had one many years ago and sold it. I still regret it. I had the most compliments on my sound and playing with that guitar. It just wasn’t fashionable. Looking back, what a stupid reason to pass it on.

These guitars of a "gone" era are simply great. As the bridge is embedded in two brass studs the sound has that bit of added high frequencies which I like over a Gibson Les Paul standard. Playability is nice in a way that the neck profile is really nice. The outer fret ends however are not always that consistently mounted and sometimes tend to pop up. Still guitars to look after! And players like this! l.o.l.

it could easily be the maple neck making it a little snappier as well. outstanding take on the LP sound that really stands the test of time.

Only downside of these magnificent guitars is that the neck is super-slim. A little more chunk and it would be truly unmatched.

Have you tried a Yamaha SG1000? I love mine. I'd say it has a medium C. Not too fat or "fast".

Finally, a useful demo. Inspiring and informative. Beautiful playing. The Bridge/tail arrangement is the locking "Gibraltar" stuff which was an improvement on the usual Gibson-type arrangement. The p/ups are the top-model Super 58s and if you're looking for one of these guitars, they're probably the best option. The butterfly ones are usually the Super 80s high output jobs potted with epoxy which don't have quite the smoky tones when played clean/near clean yet don't match Di Marzio Super Distortions or Gibson's Dirty Fingers either when used for "that dirty kind of business" - not a p/up I would choose again so.....................I'd try before buy. Some lower-price models have Super 70s which pair well with stomp boxes but a good amp will expose them a little. Not all the p/ups Ibanez loaded these with coped well with the "Tri-sonic" switching which got discontinued, along with the Gibraltar arrangement. When it works, it's terrific, needs a good amp to exploit it. The handsome maple is a nice veneer on the lower price models, not a Les Paul lump. Being Ibanez, quality is very high, the Artist is a very comfortable stage guitar and the lower price ones are just nailed on for a p/up upgrade. Plenty of those around without paying silly money. Lovely demo. Beautiful guitar. I'd love to have one of these but.........I have a choice es335. Hang it on the wall? It's good looking enough.

Not as nice as mine, which is a Jan '80 2619 with pretty pearloid tuners and flying finger pickups but, to be fair, your playing and mastery of the switches more than makes up the difference.

Everybody hates Gibson. So overpriced! If I want a black Les Paul Custom with the ebony f/bid, the split diamond and the low-and-wide frets, it's a custom shop job at around (I think) 5 - 6 - £7,000.00 - with case. If I want one of these Ibanez Artists? I can't get Ibanez to make me one at any price, they don't have a custom shop. You're looking at vintage dealers for a guitar that didn't sell in millions and yet people that bought them didn't move them on. Ibanez cut their own throat with the handsome cheaper ones. S'll right, it's all OK. I'll get a black Les Paul Custom when funds allow.

They still come up on Ebay fairly regularly so you should get lucky. Usually between £1200 and £2000 now. I have an '82 AR100 I bought while on holiday in Savannah Georgia about 20 years ago (it was hidden away among loads of Les Pauls and was only about $600) and then found an AR300 from a guy with a large collection of them in London about 10 years ago and paid about £900 for it. Very different guitars but both absolutely lovely. Good luck in your search!
