Excellent comparison. Thank you for your efforts. I recently bought a GE-10 and I’m very happy with it.

I am just happy that today there are many people who can fix effect pedals. Back in the day especially the late 80s early 90s when I got serious on investing on my gear. If a pedal breaks, you're out of options except to get another unit.

Thanks for this video. I have been looking for an older GE7 because the current ones are not (easily?) mod-able due to their SMD design, but they are priced at a premium. All the demos of the current GE7 do indicate a high noise floor. The GE10 seems like a great alternative.
@arito11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, the GE10 is a great alternative and can still be found for a reasonable price used! If you're looking for used non-SMD GE-7, look for the silver label Taiwan versions, they are still affordable and usually cleaner because they're newer.

Just found one in bad shape with a bad switch, it works just not reliable for live unless left on, paid about $45. It looks new after cleaning duct tape goo off it. I love this pedal!

Great video. I've had a ge10 for a while, but switch issues have kept it out of rotation. Recently heard a cherry mx or similar switch can be used.. I've yet to investigate, but your video is inspiring to fix it.
@arito Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, the switch on the 10 series is a common issue, I have a TS10 that has the same problem. I've also heard of aftermarket replacement parts, but am yet to try them out either... Hope you get your GE10 up and running again!

The modded one is consistently more quiet, the Ibanez is worlds better than stock. I hear good things about the Yamaha GE10II. I thought the Danelctro Fish n Chips was quieter than the GE7 too.

Thanks for checking out this video as well, and sharing your experiences with us! I've come across the Yamaha eq pedals several times for good deals, but never actually bought one. Might have to give it a try one of these days.
@robertstan23493 ай бұрын
the 10 series had really cheap construction, such the input jacks being soldered directly to the board, which was very prone to go bad when stressed by travel, temp changes and being used night after night after night after night.
@arito3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, the 10 series does tend to have a less robust construction.

I've read that the new GE7 smd pedals have the upgraded chips and are quiet ... can anyone confirm?

Hi, thanks for watching! This same question was asked in one of my earlier GE-7 videos (with far more views), and no one seemed to have an answer. I'm surprised that no one has yet to check the op amps in the new version.

Great build-up, then NO AUDIO! from 10:42 onward. So the comparison did not make it to KZbin.
@arito8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! There is audio there, as I compare the noise floor between the two pedals. I'm guessing you probably skipped through some of my talking, but around 5:50, I talk about why I don't think tone comparisons with EQ pedals have much validity.
@stringtheoryx8 ай бұрын
@@arito The audio goes out at the segment starting at 10:44, right after you say "take it from there."
@arito8 ай бұрын
@@stringtheoryx It may sound like the audio suddenly gets cut off because I turn off the room mic, which is picking up my voice, but the pedal audio is on. Turn up your headphones a little and jump to 11:11 or 11:23 and you should hear a white noise like sound. Hope this helps!

Hoi Arito, impressive work! And funny that i momentarily have the possibility to obtain the Ibanez eq pedal: i got lucky, thanks to you... thanks!!! One thing: i would have liked to hear your modded version immediately before the Ibanez to be able to compare them better. Have you heard of the XTS mod to the Boss GE7, to really dial in to the mid freq? Look them up for fun! In my opinion the lowest and highes freq bands of the Boss are not very usefull, can be adressed via high and low pass filters on amplifier. Aatjoo! Arjen
@arito2 жыл бұрын
Hi Arjen, thanks for watching! Congratulations on acquiring a GE10, that's great! Although I don't know the details, I have heard of the XTS mod, I think Tom Bukovac aka Uncle Larry mentioned it in one of his videos. I imagine that pro guitarists would benefit from a more tailored frequency band. Have fun with the GE10! Thanks again!
@arjenland43742 жыл бұрын
Hei Arito, i think i understand your remark about pro players and the need to finetune midrange freq but there might be another group of people who could benefit from it. People like..... me (surprise ;-) who have slight to medium hearing problems due to love of guitar trashing and age pile up. I experience the mids as the most aggressive to my ears and to be able to filter the most annoying freqs out some is a relief, BUT (is BUT also a problem in your part of the world? Its an epidemic overhere, in every sentence at least one but...) an parametric eq is probably better suited BUT not so easy to use, BUT..... No, no buts anymore!
@arito2 жыл бұрын
@@arjenland4374 That totally makes sense, I can see the benefits of having more control in the mids as you have explained! Thank you!

Thanks for watching! Yes, as I talk about in the video, I didn't want to do any direct tone comparisons of the pedals, so I didn't play through them. And since the functionality of the GE10 is exactly the same as the GE-7, I figured there are tons of videos by amazing guitarists like Tim Pierce showing how to properly use an EQ pedal!
