Will you join my band? Love te way you play and your genuine guitar faces too. This was such an excellent, informative and entertaining video. I searched high and low for a good "Rock Sound" guitar pedal and had no luck for years. Then one day I went to my friends house and he had a Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer, and from the second I plugged in I was BLOWN AWAY and thought "THIS IS IT" !!! This is hands down the best pedal I have ever used. I wasn't sure if there were other Tubescreamer pedals I should be aware of but this video really cleared things up for me. Thank you!!!

Have to admit, I’ve never liked the ts9 as a drive into a clean amp (I’ve had one for almost 20 years), but as a clean boost or stacking into another pedal, they’re awesome!

I use mine almost exclusively as a tone control to augment the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe in my rig. I had mothballed it for about 20 years because I didn't think much of it as a standalone overdrive. Got the Friedman about a year ago, and decided to give it another look just for tone comparisons, and found that I LOVED using them TOGETHER.

Great video and playing Dagan! You are right on the money that this is a must have. I bought one recently, in large measure due to this video. It's hard for me to believe in a way that I've been playing so long and never gotten one before. By far the best bang for the buck of any pedal I've ever had. Now I know I could not live without this super-versatile little green box and I'm even considering buying another to have as a spare for fear that I might not be able to get one in the future. Together with my Strymon Flint Reverb Pedal and the TS9, I'm getting holy grail clean tone with my Player Plus Strat through my Fender x2 Super Champ 15 watt head and Mesa 1 x 12 cab (with Jensen Blackbird speaker). Strats can sound so thin on the core clean tone, but I'm now getting a rich, lush, full bodied, chiming tone, with the level dimed and the gain very low or off. Dramatic increase in clean headroom now too.

Got offered a TS9 about 354years ago for £20 and took it as I did not have any pedals. I was then hooked, since then it's been part of my main guitar sound, like Dagan says it's extremely versatile, I think it shines most when you use it as to quota Dagan 'Salt & pepper' or seasoning on your current sound. Hell I did one gig without an amp!, just plugged the Ts9 through the PA system, and the ts9 got me through. Great pedal and , superb for fronting amps.

You nailed exactly the TS9 was my first effects pedal. It’s just a taste of distortion. I was considering and comparing several Blues pedals, it came down to the TS9 or the BOSS Blues Driver, and the TS9 was the clear choice both because of the range and tone. I don’t know how to describe it other than it gives me an overdrive sound that isn’t so strong that it hides what and how I’m playing.
@Ndlanding3 жыл бұрын
The man is right! I've had my TS for nearly 40 years, and it's by far the best pedal I've ever had. I was recommended it by Chris Rea, who we toured with and I loved his sound, though I never got one for my Les Paul -- but on changing to Fender, it was pretty much necessary, and has been with me ever since. I use it mainly for solos or intros, etc., and have an MXR Microamp always on to enhance my basic sound and to compensate for signal loss when using more pedals. All going through a valve amp at a clean setting.

Let’s be honest: the Ibanez TS9 just as a stand-alone OD pedal on a clean amp sounds INCREDIBLE. Add it into a hard driven Marshall (or pick your favorite inferior amp here) and life just becomes an awesome day filled with unicorns 🦄 rainbows 🌈 bunnies 🐰 and Hard Rocking Metal Gods… nothing tops a TS9 and a tube amp… period. If only more new guitarists would pay attention to this setup and skip the garbage distortion pedals that sound horrible.

My employer gave me a generous Amazon Gift Card so I splurged and got the Maxon Apex 808 and while it still isn't my go to, it is the best I've ever had. Since I got that though, I have gotten one other clone, the Biyang OD-10 Mad Driver Overdrive and that is better than any other clone I've ever had, it definitely holds it's own next to the Apex for $39 vs $300. I considered buying an AnalogMan Modded Tube Screamer but feel my Maxon Apex 808 was well worth the price.

I am not a fan of pedals. More often than not, guitar players, especially amateurs, tend to get swept up in the eternal quest of tone nirvana and believe the path to that promised land resides in having a surfboard sized pedal board filled with pedals. The only pedals that should be on the floor in front of any guitar player are a wah pedal, a tuner and a good OD pedal. With that said, the TS9 is about as good as you're going to get regardless of price. Now, here's a secret that most don't feature in their videos nor will you find it in the TS9's operation manual. This pedal reacts the best to low output pickups such as single coils, especially P90's. When it comes to humbuckers, low output pickups also sound the best such as PAF's (pre-1990's if you can find them......1960's would be ideal). High output pickups, especially active pickups, tend to sound harsh with brittle high end and sloppy mids and lows. This pedal works the best with an amp where the input stage is designed to be overdriven. This includes everything from Fenders, new and old, to JCM800's to Vox ACxx products and so on. If you have the cash and incredible good fortune to get something exotic such as a Dumble or Matchless, even better. God bless you. Do a video that features your fantastic amp so the rest of us mortals can drool. 🙂 If you're looking for that "tight" crunch that "pushes air", this pedal is how you get it. Most players don't realize that distortion and gain pedals wash out the tone. While those pedals will provide a lot of "crunch", one of the negative consequences is the guitar tends not to show well in a mix, either live or in the studio. Ever wonder how Angus Young gets such a massively huge sound? Overdrive. He cranks a Marshall (Plexis in the old days) and uses a Shaffer-Vega wireless system that magically helps overdrive the input stage of the amp instead of using an OD pedal. The result is nothing short of sublime. So, if you think the way to get that crunchy, pulse-pounding, huge open chord ringing tone is through lots of gain and/or distortion or through a metric f*ck ton of pedals, try a TS9 with some low output pickups and a good amp. Cheers.
