Awesome review! I'm always worried about being underbiked on gnarly trails, but if I'm honest, the Ripley AF would be perfect for 95% of the trails I ride. I currently have a Ripmo AF and think that the Ripley would probably be more applicable. Thanks again!

I must not pay enough attention. Chris, how did I not know you did work for Singletracks? Nice review! I had the Ripmo.AF and loved it, but I do think for most of the trails I ride a Ripley would have done a lot better for me. Lighter, better climber and less suspension travel. I did decide to go back down a wheel size to 27.5 and now ride a Salsa Rustler. I am only 5' 7" and feel 29 inch wheels make the bike pass tossable.

My primary Bike is a V1 Ripmo and am debating getting this as a backup. Previously I had an OG Ripley and loved that! I have a few other options: I can get a Ripmo AF as a back up. The bonus to this is if something were to happen to my V1 frame, I can swap everything to the Ripmo AF. Another option would be to go with a different brand for a change. I'm considering a Norco Range or a Rocky Mountain Instinct or Altitude. I would appreciate some input! Btw, I mostly ride Trail/XC not much Chunk. I live in the SF Bay Area.

The Ripley AF sounds like your best choice for trail/XC riding in the Bay area. There's something to be said for choosing a "local" brand whenever you can; the bikes tend to be optimized for trails and riding styles in the area.

Do the standard Ibis rear hub in the wheelset this bike has still not have quick pawl engagement? The trails in my area are fairly technical, and the Chris King hubs on my current bike, which have instant engagement, really help while maneuvering through it. I just need a more current frame design with more travel and better anti squat, and unfortunately my CKs won't fit the new frames.

How tall are you guys? I'm 5-8, which puts me in a medium on Ibis's website. However, I heard Ibis bikes run smaller. I personally cannot imagine buying a bike with a large frame. Any thoughts? Great review!

This or PIVOT TRAIL 429? I ride midatlantic area, so mountains to shore. Me: 6’1” 172 pounds. I HATE bikes that destroy pedals and cranksets! Also if pivot enduro build DPX2 or maybe 2022 float x and grip 2 36 or standard dps build and fit 4 34? Thank you.

Probably depends on your budget as the two have a pretty significant difference in price. Neither had issues for pedal strikes with us. Pivot felt a little more agile and Ripley AF felt a little more confident descending tech. - Matt

Water Bottles? What is it with weekend riders, always needing to have a water bottle, attached to the frame? And these are the same hypocrites that rant about how many grams a component/frame weighs. Bout time bike makers, do away with the bottle-mount holes. Plenty of backpacks, convenience stores and streams by every trail.

We all have different preferences for sure. Not everyone wants or needs a place to stash a water bottle. For other riders, carrying anything on their backs/hips is to be avoided at all costs. Fortunately there SO are many different bikes to choose from!
