THIS is how you properly use references. THe most videos of this kind absolutely copy the pose when they open the original picture (and sadly getting way more clicks and likes) you do it properly and at top of this have a lot of talent because your version looks amazing!

Both actually are correct. You can use a reference if you wanna try the pose of it or any elements you want to create as a guide for your art.

It honestly depends, nothing is wrong with it unless the reference u're using is an art drawn by another artist, it's safer to use real people as reference

The artist here is referencing the character design and colors of Wanderer, not related to any posing or composition. Using references for pose making is fine, and in fact a really good exercise. As long as you don’t trace other people’s work and call it your own.
