I understand that this is technically a win according to the rules. But I don’t like it. There shouldn’t be a winner unless somebody taps. The scoring system for jujitsu has turned it into something that it was never supposed to be.
@TRA255 жыл бұрын
I think it’s turned out this way because otherwise we’d have matches going for ages and therefore make it too difficult to run a bjj tournament in a reasonable time frame. Maybe the higher level guys should play by a submission only ruleset though with the earlier stages of tournaments being point based.
@danielxtma5 жыл бұрын
Whats wrong exactly with the scoring system? i think makes perfect sense
@TRA255 жыл бұрын
Daniel Dughman In simulation of a real conflict assuming no outside influences such as people interfering a point system simply does not suffice. Submissions represent the ability to significantly injure, kill or knockout an opponent and when a point system is in place you don’t have to show that you had that degree of control to have won in a life or death scenario. A point system also makes you fight for points rather than submissions, points are easy much easier to get and assuming you have a good enough defence you don’t even have to attempt a submission to win. Under a point system you don’t have to have good cardio and don’t necessarily have to be good at submissions to win, although it certainly helps. This doesn’t translate well into real life though where if you gas out you’re toast. If you don’t have the submission skill required to at least be able to submit someone untrained but competent you’re in trouble when you gas out and as martial artists you don’t want the results of a conflict to be entirely dependent on your conditioning.
@anonymouse70955 жыл бұрын
Daniel Dughman it’s like point sparring in karate. Drives the competitors to train for points rather than practical real-world scenarios. I’m sure both of these guys can defend themselves just fine. But the point system turns it into a silly game rather than a match to see who could really beat who.
@lenonkitchens77275 жыл бұрын
@@anonymouse7095 Yep, it dilutes the art. Most TKD guys these days have extremely weak kicks. They don't learn power, they learn speed and placement. That's what wins points. It's fine for sport, but it's not going to save them against an attacker amped up adrenaline or narcotics. Edit: As opposed to someone like Joe Rogan who learned old school TKD. That dudes kicks are absolutely lethal.
@kauairootsohana5 жыл бұрын
I think that if your guard passing is up to par with an amazing guard then What’s wrong with pulling guard? When one chooses to pull guard, you (the opponent) are automatically on top being able to use gravity to your advantage and if your passing game is on point, then hey, good! Your in a position your happy with, and pass the gward you shall... What you think??

Everyone talking shit doesn't even train, or understand the point of sport jiu jitsu. Its a tournament with points and advantages, not a street fight. They are playing a game in a sense and are playing the rules in their favor. All that matters is you win, doesnt matter if its by a point, an advantage or a sub. Win is a win. If either of these guys were in a street fight, they would use completely different techniques all based of the scenerio.
