I don't know how true it is, but I think the production looks at the audience reaction during the songs. They decide what songs should be cut for a time. When I saw the 4th national tour they cut a change in me.

Honestly, I bet the kids thought the whimpering by the Beast was hysterical. It is a family friendly show. I'm not necessarily opposed to this choice. But I don't understand why Belle didn't find it a turn-off. Especially since that moment was key in helping her fall in love with him.

This is an ok scene, but the song is so much better than turning it into just a scene like in the cartoon, Mason De Lune is so much better than this scene. same with why take away Murice and belles song no matter what, yet keep his reprise while on the way to the fair. ?
