IBM Model F | From the collection

I think ( based on my experience with Mod F or similar layouts) that a BIG part of the original Mod F layout with the IBM 5150 PC was for people doing DATA entry on the numeric key-pad. Of course things changed and bar coding ( 3 of 9) came along, but for other people doing hand entry, the MOD F numeric key-pad was a dream.

I legitimately just got my Model F for $51 at auction on eBay. I have no clue what the lister was thinking setting the starting price so low. I'm still waiting tor my converter. This video is making me look forward to it

@@Kendingro I got my converter and I have to say that is one hell of a keyboard! I could get use to the layout, but the stepping of the keycaps is a bit of a problem for me

I want a model F, the beauty eith the 24 F keys up top. Its just such a beauty. Also the MK 3 Supra is my favourite car too. Although id probably paint it in a light beige tone.

Got my MOD F keyboard! That sucker was wrapped so well that it took me at least 30 minutes to get the keyboard out of the box and unwrapped. NOW? I just have to get the DIN to USB-X converter device and HOPE that IT will work.

I'm typing on one of these now. No nubs on the 'F' and 'J' keys, so touch typists beware. No caps or num lock lights so guess if you can. And num lock is necessary because the num pad are also your arrow keys. When I'm back on 104 key layouts, guess how I use the arrow keys now. Those born in the 70s might be unlocking some long lost kinetic memories!

If you replace the external Soarer's with an internal Xwhatsit controller, you'll enjoy native USB functionality as well as the option to include a secondary solenoid which takes the typing experience to a whole new level of noise absurdity!

That's possible on other Models F - i.e. the 4704 keyboards or the F AT. There's no Xwhatsit that's compatible with the F XT.

I think your XT could do with a foam replacement. If done right, it will feel and sound tighter and crisper.
