He had no way of knowing that he would not see his home city or town for another 24 years. In that time, he will have traveled almost the entirety of the Islamic world, gone for over 75,000 miles, and write a travelogue that scholars still refer to understand the world of the 15th century. We start off with simple cases, and by the end the player is either very familar with Islamic law, or the fictional law code of the fantasy world if this isn't a Travels of Ibn Battuta game. The other part of the game would be a walking sim with RPG elements, as you explore cities and experience the overarching plot.

I'm not 100% sure on how historical it is because I seem to remember the fatwa declaring such was issued in the 20th century. I could be wrong though, Islam theology is not my expertise.

Not entirely correct. Many of these places had border outposts that rigidly enforced who came and went. The video itself even points out he had to meet with the Turkish Slave Empire (The Mamluks). To be fair though, this was mostly due to regulating material. Some stuff was taxed heavily while other things were illegal to bring in entirely.
