yeah and that screen-spanning program will also "enable clamshell mode" but I already had the computer apart so I thought I'd just mention the reed switch.

You'd have to first define "fast enough" before I could give an honest opinion. They are fast enough for many tasks, but can't do a lot of things that most people take for granted. For example any website with embedded video is going to be a challenge, if not downright impossible.

Heh. The 'Old Computers Did It Better' was my introduction to you and your content a few years ago. :) There's another solution to the Airport problem that doesn't involve tearing apart the machine (which is HELL) to remove the card, and also provides a bit more modern functionality: Linux. I bought one of the late model G4's on Ebay that unbeknownst to me had the Airport/PCI-E port issue. I could not load a copy of OS X to save my life and didn't quite know what the issue was at the time. I figured, let me try Linux. After a lot of install failures, the solution was to install Ubuntu MATE 16.04 PPC and then install the Lubuntu/LXDE desktop over top to reduce the memory footprint (Lubuntu didn't want to install for some reason). After that I had crashes involving the ATI video card which was no longer fully supported in the kernel and would crash the system at random. It's a known issue and it can be fixed with a bit of Googling. After that, a USB wifi adapter can be used and you then have a much more modern and usable system than Tiger. The only issues present afterwards are a very long boot time as it tries to poll the wifi card and then gives up and loads the OS (about 10 minutes), and then the inability to fully shutdown (probably the same reason - not sure - it just hangs at a certain point) which results in an fsck each time the system boots to fix orphaned files and such. As it's a journaled filesystem, I don't think it's a big issue as data shouldn't really be lost - just adds to the long boot. It's one of those things that's an annoyance but as long as you can live with it, that's all it is. You've still got a perfectly usable machine and it it's got a decent battery, maybe you just sleep it and never really shut it down all the way unless an update or overall system refresh requires it.
@JonasKvale11 жыл бұрын
A.) The iBook CAN go on wireless again. Just get a USB dongle. B.) Instead of unplugging the reed switch to keep it from going to sleek, just put a coin in between the magnet and the switch. When you close the lid, it won't go to sleep if you do this.

2:00 on a windows computer you just go into control panel and just set it to do that without going into the laptop and unplugging a switch. So I'm not sure why Apple can't figure out how to put a setting in system preferences.

I wish that there was a scaling option as well (either with S-SD or Mac OSX itself), as a 14-inch iBook G4 (which sadly has the same-resolution screen as a 12-inch iBook G4, if I am not mistaken) will run Tiger (but maybe fixed in Leopard?) at a scale that's a bit too large and doesn't make great use of that larger display.

Hey there sir, I know this video is old old, but I am trying to restore my original g4 and it freezes within a few minutes of use.
