I LOVE what you do with the shortened draw length! I bought an ancient hoyt a few months back because its cheap and a lefty even tho it's draw is ~1.5 in too short for me, I shoot with that knuckle anchorred into my smile and it works just fine!

Beautiful work as always. And thanks for the video representation on why the word "no" comes right after the word "hell" when I think about some of that natural bow backing. "Would ya like to wander around the swamp looking for a cotton mouth?" "Hell No!". All kidding aside great vid and always love the look of those snakey bows.

I really want to get into archery for hunting but also recreation. I messed around with my grandfather’s hunting bows from the early 70’s. I’m more interested in traditional than compound. Would a bow like this work for someone basically starting from scratch?

Gold tip traditional arrows and they have the next level up which is goldtip traditional xr or something like that. Sound s like youd need a 350 spine but look at their chart and check
@hillbillyheadcam17293 жыл бұрын
I shoot goldtip trad arrows on my 50lb I cant notice much difference between 500 spine and 400 spine they both work great 350 spine or so should be good for your 70lb bow

Thanks for posting something. I can't shoot in my quarantine in Michigan and I'm missing it. On a side note, when you kill a snake like that, crush it's head. When you cut it off like that the brain stays alive for a while, and that's no way to die. As a fellow hunter, I know you respect the animals you kill as much as I do

I've often wondered why archery supply and e-bay sellers never offered cotton mouth skins. ( they only sell rattle snake) I've made several Osage bows, many with snake skins. I live in Alaska and there is no such thing as a snake in Alaska so I've had to buy skins from suppliers. I think you should try selling some cotton mouth skins on e-bay.
@clayhayeshunter4 жыл бұрын
They're fairly hard to come by. All the rattle snake skins come from those round ups in texas.
@stephenmelton63814 жыл бұрын
Dear Clay, thank you for all the enjoyable videos, and helpful tips. I have an enquiry if I may? The snake skin you used, was there a curing process before you glued it to your bow? Or was it glued onto the stave fresh, allowing it to dry on the bow? Thank you again, all the best Stephen

Hi Clay, I have been shooting bows and hunting since I was big enough to stretch the string on a little fiberglass bow! I have killed a couple deer with a recurve but I have a lot to learn when it comes to set up and tuning. I have had several lower back surgeries but have wanted to build self bows for years, this back problem has held me back from trying it. Your videos have inspired me to finally give it a go! I have a couple of kids that like archery and I would like to build bows for them or even get them building their own with me! I am going to sign up for you patreon but have a question I hope you can answer for me soon. Is it too late in the spring to cut down a hedge (Osage) tree? I live in East central Kansas and didn't know if they would have too much sap/moisture already? I am going out to cut a tree for stave material today! I hope you can tell me that it will still make great bow make staves!?!? Thanks for your time, Brian
@clayhayeshunter4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, I don’t care what time of year it is. Just seal the ends well. If you cut them now you can slip the bark off which will keep horntail wasp from laying eggs on them. Make sure you seal the sapwood if you do. Wood glue works great.
@baitammo46524 жыл бұрын

My dad hates snakes. He tells a story about why he hates snakes. When he was young 8-10 his cousin visited over the summer. They went down to the creek to catch frogs. Well his cousin found a 2.5 foot milk snake, and being a kid started messing with it. He grabbed it by the tail and started whipping it above his head like a shepard’s sling. It entended up slipping out of his hand, went flying and wrapped around my dad’s neck...
