Felix Immler makes a lot of such contraptions from wood using his Swiss Army knife, and his recommendation with battening using such folding blades is to leave the blade open at 90 degrees to prevent the repeated blows from wearing out the spring locking mechanism, in order to preserve it for when you are hand-carving, so that the blade will remain steady and not slip due to the mechanism having come loose. I'm not certain if your Leatherman uses a similar mechanism, but if it does, I hope this piece of advice was useful!

I don't forsee making one but I enjoyed watching the process. Loved watching your assistants help out was fun to watch, glad to see a Dad teaching his kids how to live life outside of the interweb. Amazing the things that can be done with the Leatherman, I have carried one on my belt for years, probably used daily for one thing or another.

Why the 90 degree trigger? The gas in most cans still works when the can is on it’s side. Seems a simpler solution would be to put the trigger lever near vertical with the air horn affixed to the base horizontally.

Cedar is a wonderful wood to craft with but do you ever notice how quickly it will dull tools? I know our eastern white cedar also has a nasty habit of picking up grains of sand in its rings as it grows that will put a nasty notch in tools. You ever run across that issue?

@@clayhayeshunter We do the best we can with what we have. :) I commend you.. Your knowledge will be incredibly valuable in a SHTF and a barter economy also..skills can be bartered for other necessities.. the hierarchy of necessity: Air, Water, Food, and shelter.. (in that order) skills and creativity will get you far in a barter world.. it can be traded. My comment didn't have any negative implication. It was just an alternative. I envy your creativity.. I have been preparing for a couple years for the possibilities we face in this crazy world. I don't like being caught off guard, so i prepare.. :) Peace to you Clay.. May God be with you and your family..
