Rabbim ne bizlere bir daha böyle acı yaşatmasın. this song reminded me of Antioch. Just before 1 week ago. Part of my childhood was buried beneath the rubble throughout the city, after the massive erathquake happened couple days ago. I weep for the city, for my relatives, my memories. I wanted to listen this song. I wanted to mourn. I want to shout. Cry. Scream. Yell. Yell to the represantatives of the government. We lost a city 2500 years old. we should question the authorities who could've and should've prevent what happened in Hatay. I cry for my city, my memories, my country. It abandoned us, and we abandoned it. I swear I will not get comfortable until I see the rebirth of my beloved city, and country.

So beautiful and sad, you transpire all the pain, suffering and misery wars cause, it's like a hymn to all the fallen children, to dreams destroyed, to war ravaged broken people. Your voice, the way you play the trumpet, is a mirror to your soul reflecting our own souls, to a feeeling of loss and then at the later stages of Beirut of anger, an explosion of rage and defiance at all the injustices. Beirut is Aleppo, is Gaza, is Mariupol, is every place torn by senseless wars. You're extraordinary Ibrahim Maalouf , bravo.

It has a faint resemblance to Round Midnight, same note intervals are being used but as far as i can work out this is totally original by Maalouf it's really fascinating

The Sun, whose name we gave to our children, would never let this city feel cold. The sky, whenever we looked up at it, would embrace us, pulling us into its arms. Our wheat would compete with the color of gold, blending with the sands. Our lives were filled with colorful hopes, never giving place to black, and remained as blue as a promise among us. The strong cliffs descending into the sea would give courage to the waves, freely reflecting in the turquoise blue. One day, my people, seeing the clouds’ sulkiness turning gray in the sky, not yet understanding the situation in that moment, would later come to understand the color of pain settling into our city. Like the trust in a beloved, dancing without hesitation in the intoxication of life, the wind, passing through the corridors of history, would whistle love songs to Beirut in our streets. It would take the hands of these streets, greeting the people as it passed through, descending all the way to the port, where the lovers' song could be heard from every corner. As it reached the sea, the wind would lose itself, spreading over the waves, which mixed with the foam, until it covered all of my Beirut. "I will never leave my people," said the wind, "for I am Beirut, and my people are Beirut." The sea would weep, and the foam would say "Beirut." As the waves crashed against the rocks that gave them their strength, everyone would witness, and the heavens and earth would offer thanks for love, saying, "Oh love, you are Beirut!" Those born here, the children of Beirut, would never be sad, never carry sorrow; it was as if happiness was passed down to them from their ancestors.
