Beautiful. It really draws your eye to the front porch. The railings are going to tie it all together. Great job. Using biscuits on your miters with construction adhesive will pay off, your joints will remain closed for years to come. Enjoy watching someone do a job right. Great video.

Very nice. I tore down an old craftsman style house about 12 years ago and there were pillars like that on the porch. One of them was filled with yellow jacket nests.

Exquisite work. Quick trivia: Thin strips that are flexed into position to hold a workpiece in place while glue dries are commonly used in building musical instruments. The specialized name in that trade is "go bars".

Tapered columns are so classy! Excellent work. I've heard them referred to as "elephantine columns". In my area lots of the post-Edwardian bungalows have these columns on the exterior and interior

Love all the clever ideas in this, I'm definitely going to be borrowing your tips. How's it all holding up? I see people saying pine won't last for exterior use (use cedar or PVC instead), and I see it recommended to paint the cut ends before assembly. I'm wondering how important either of those are.

I generally work with stain grade material. i really like your approach on those columns! you deserve another nail gun. Nobody hits finish work with a hammer any more! old school teaching the youngsters. how many jobs would a guy need to have to learn like youtubers! thanks fellow carpenter.

i really like how those columns turned out! i also really really like the reinforcement that was done. a lot of the rotted material i see just falls off and has no backing to it unlike these fine pieces of work. thanks for some tips to a novice!
