The rainbow-painted crosswalks are for Pride month and celebrations! Us in Canada, at least the larger cities like Vancouver and Montreal, throw pretty big pride festivals! Some of the smaller cities in the country do smaller festivals and in Nova Scotia and PEI, crosswalks and picnic tables can be painted as rainbows!! Rainbows are also amazing

Those Stop/Arrêt signs only happens on the Eastern side of Canada (excluding Ontario). If you visit BC, AB, SK, MB, you'll not going to find those. But then again, have you ever seen the Stop signs in Nunavut? Go check it out. They do add Inuktitut on it as well.

I looked for transatlantic flights from zurich to nyc and back in december and the price was about 250 dollars for both flights with lufthansa and/or swiss air. It's crazy how those flights developed. If i remember correctly, before those flight searching sites like skyscanner and so on existed, my dad told me a flight to america costs 500 euros and back 500 euros. Sooo pretty crazy what has changed in less than 10 years

You went to my city! How did I not know about this? A couple corrections: The airport is called Halifax Stanfield, not Stanstead. The bilingual stop sign comes from you being on federal property since you were at the port and next to the Canadian Museum if Immigration which is a national historic site. I did find it a little annoying how you spent more time in the video talking in the hotel than touring around the city.

I live in Newfoundland, but my family lives in British Columbia (opposite side of Canada), so I fly back and forth within Canada a lot. I think I've cleared security without either having them want to check my bags or being the unlucky random person for whom the arch beeps no matter what probably twice. Ironically, one time I was that unlucky random beep person as I went through behind my husband, who forgot to take his very full ring of keys out of his back pocket. It didn't pick up his 15+ keys, but it randomly beeped me. Edit: Rainbow crossings are no different from regular white paint ones, other than the fact that some organization or municipal government decided to show support for LGBTQ+ rights. Edit 2: Shamrock City! Very nice place to go. Next time you're in St. John's, I highly recommend eating at The Celtic Hearth. My husband and I love it! I usually get fish & chips, and he loves their poutine dish called "The Big Dirty."

I think Greco has them or was it Lefties in Grand Falls?. Now I want donair food. I wouldn't mind if Newfoundland was still apart or returned to British control. There are locals who are upset that local companies don't get to sell weed, While it's not my thing it is a shame. I'm fairly sure the rainbow crossing is meant for a gay pride thing because Canada is all for the LGBTQ thing.

bom-BAR-dee-ay, not bom-bar-DEER. =3 Also yes, quieter compared to earlier Dash-8 models before the "Q" package, but, well, turboprops are still louder than turbojets. And I *hate* Dash-8s! As for Canadian airport names, our ICAO four-letter codes all start with CY and finish with two letters, and all our IATA codes are our ICAO codes minus the initial C.

Pretty skookum deal you managed to get. I'm impressed. For such a short trip, you managed to do a fair bit. The Q400 is indeed quieter than a DHC-8-300 (I fly both quite frequently), but I still prefer the noisier DHC-8-300. A Briton may find turboprops a little odd, but without them, flying to smaller cities in Canada would be nearly impossible. My hometown has between 5-8 daily turboprop flights to Vancouver per day as well as 3 daily turboprop flights to Calgary. With jets, that would only be 1-2 flights a day, which would greatly reduce our connectivity at hubs & cost far more.
@ibx2cat
@ibx2cat 6 жыл бұрын
I can understand if only 50-80 people go somewhere a day, but if you run 8 Dash 8 flights you might as well run 4 or 5 jet flights and get the same number of people (in my head at least) there are may flights in Europe using 737's that are once daily, I believe it saves costs
@Berubium
@Berubium 6 жыл бұрын
@@ibx2cat Ultimately there are many different factors at play. Many European airports (Heathrow & Gatwick would be good examples) are at or near capacity so slotting in 8 turboprop departures/arrivals would mean using up precious time/space & the landing fees might make it cost prohibitive. Vancouver & Calgary do not have that problem (yet) although Vancouver's airport is still quite busy. For business travellers, which account for much of the traffic to smaller cities in Canada, more service is better. In my case (YKA-YVR), it's such a short flight (approx. 40 minutes in a Q400, 50 minutes in a DHC-8-300) that the time savings in a jet just isn't a factor. Also Air Canada, which operates that route 5-7 times per day depending on season, is expanding so much that they're desperately short on jet aircraft, so slotting in turboprops on a route like that makes perfect sense. CMA operates that route 0-1 time per day & is just a little commuter airline. The other route (YKA-YYC) is serviced by both Air Canada (twice daily) & WestJet (thrice daily) with turboprobs. WestJet used to service the route once per day with a 737-600 & when they switched to a Q400, went to 2x & 3x per day. Not only did they make more money with the turboprob service, but they picked up a larger market share once they went to 3x daily because it increased their connectivity. I know that a lot of Canadians have told you that WestJet is so great (I think they're okay, but far from anything special), but one thing that has really prevented them from getting the traffic that Air Canada gets is poor hub connectivity. They serve too many routes with 1 flight a day or less & that has limited them in some cases.
