Magelocks can be useful if you take the atheletic trait. Makes them more mobile during combat.
@Umimugo2 ай бұрын
so a great thing about the magelock cannon is you can hold alt to free-fire at terrain and still hit targets with the +3 hex AOE. I've paired this with tons of range enchantments to bombard units from 9 hexes away.

After playing a couple of games with Reaver, I agree that the Magelocks aren't great, especially if you give it to a ranged hero but the sound of it firing is perfect so I have to use them... until I get good replacements than their garrison units at best. I find the Zepher Archer unit from the Tomes or the barbarian archer unit since it gets a mount is a good replacement.

Yes, yes, the sound FX of the Magelocks firing is amazing. Magelocks aren't bad, they just require way more preparation and are therefore less agile than Zephyr Archer/Glade Archer Units. But they surely pack helluva punch.
@platoonmexx92789 ай бұрын
i personally usually take zephyr over glade, but when playing the reavers you rlly should go for the glade since he can mark for free and then still fire and boost his dmg, pretty much the best glade archer culture

Playing reaver I built my army around the magelocks. Usually haveing two in my army that focus down mark targets. The amount of times they just annihilate big targets made me love them

Best reaver army layout: - Hero/officer support - 2 Pikemen - 3 maglock riflemen Swap all oversears for Ironclad tanks, the pikemen are giant killers and the maglocks fire everyturn without needing to repotion. Focus damage, mark target and ghided projectiles. Kills everything quick lol

I'd argue to pick up at least one T3 Dragoon as their ranged attack is really strong and they are much more mobile and versatile. They can also melee if necessary and their repositioning trait is massive. My personal approach would rather be 1 Magelock, 1 Cannon, 1 Dragoon - also 3 ranged attackers but more diversity in the attack profile. Nothing wrong in your baseline setup there either though! I just love to have some diversity in my attacks. Also you heroes should have some healing/summoning abilities if you swap out all Support troops. Healing is mandatory imho.
@IndiIngle6 күн бұрын
@@Ic0nGaming I see where you're going with that. I would say also to look at a heavy shock melee hero with dragon step and stun ability.
@KeimpeJ9 ай бұрын
I disagree with the Magelock, they wreak havoc to the enemy. Also you forget to mention that in order for a unit to be subdued it has to be immoblized, frozen or Stunned first by another unit which can fail easily, not only by setting the system up (positioning), but also by a high chance of failing to do so (the first and the last hit can miss). Yes every Overseer can subdue a unit, but you can only have 6 units in an army, and you have to have units that can immobilize, freeze or Stun as well. And in combat the Overseers are not that strong. You will always have some, but not many Overseers.
@Ic0nGaming9 ай бұрын
I didn't want to say Magelocks are bad. They are just really not the best choice to be your only ranged unit. Due to the full action attack they are way less mobile than other archer units. Given proper preparation and free firing options, they are probably the most hard hitting ranged unit ingame currently though. And thanks for letting me know about the Subdue thing. So far I always CC'ed em the same turn I subdued them, so I never noticed.

Is it true that the cannon and magelock units cause friendly fire? Heard from a friend that they need clear line of fire in order to avoid shooting allied melee units.

They aren't bad, they are just not agile enough to be your only ranged unit. They more like serve the heavy sniper quality ;)

@@Ic0nGaming More like key target burst down. Set up a gun line and wait for AI or Player to close in with your front line. I sniped so many enemy heroes and mythic units with this strategy and that if your a lucky triggers a enemy rout.
@jadoaesra30119 ай бұрын
I feel like I might be pointing out something kind of obvious, but harriers synergize well with magelocks. immobilizing an enemy allows you to get the mage Lock close enough to enter defensive mode and mark the enemy at a safe range, meaning that enemy cannot attack your mage lock, letting you unload at near point blank.
@Alaryk219 ай бұрын
@@jadoaesra3011 Yes that is true if your engagment is in your favor then yes you can use harriers but if enemy is too sturdy or they have a debuff remover then you have a problem.
