ICC arrest warrant for Russia's Putin 'a highly symbolic move' • FRANCE 24 English

Chances of Russian President Vladimir Putin facing trial at the ICC are highly unlikely because Moscow does not recognise the court’s jurisdiction or extradite its nationals, FRANCE 24's Kyiv correspondent Emmanuelle Chaze reports. However, the moral condemnation will stain the Russian leader and follow him whenever he seeks to attend an international summit in one of the court's 123 member states that are theoretically bound to arrest him.

Nope only in their own country and during a diplomatic mission when it is prearranged. He now has to avoid 121 countries that have signed the ICC statute. Under international law there is no immunity for crimes against humanity.

The Trump administration has condemned the ICC The United States is also not a member of the ICC. In the former Trump administration (Donald Trump), it was even condemned by Trump because the International Court of Justice intended to investigate the war crimes committed by the US military in Afghanistan over the past 20 years. Trump stated that he would "investigate ICC corruption", and former Secretary of State Pompeo (Mike Pompeo) even mocked ICC with a "kangaroo court".

@@far_centrist Oh, you think this is "symbolic"??? Lets check that theory out, shall we? There are a lot of oligarchs in Russia that want this mess to go away and things to go back to normal. They know the ICC will not drop the charges. They know that as long as Putin is in charge, with an arrest warrant, sanctions will remain. They know that western leaders will not show mercy on Russia or have friendly dialogue with Russia as long as Putin is in charge. He has an arrest warrant. They will either place a bullet in the back of his head or he falls out a window. If a death sentence is "symbolic" then I guess you are right.

He can travel to china, india, africa, south america, the majority of asia, etc. That's the majority of the world. So no, he's just no longer free to travel the west. But why would he travel to nations with a crumbling economy and global influence? Sooner or later this symbolic gesture will be reversed and the west will beg the east to save its economy.
