Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory explores how early childhood experiences shape personality and behavior. Freud introduced the idea of psychosexual stages, each with a focus on satisfying specific desires that influence future development. These stages are:
Oral Stage (0-1 year): Focus on mouth activities like sucking and eating.
Anal Stage (1-3 years): Pleasure from controlling bowel and bladder movements.
Phallic Stage (3-6 years): Focus on the genitals, leading to the Oedipus and Electra complexes.
Latency Stage (6 to puberty): Sexual urges become dormant, allowing social and intellectual growth.
Genital Stage (puberty onward): Reawakening of sexual interests and the development of mature relationships.
Through these stages, Freud believed that unresolved conflicts could lead to fixations, influencing personality traits and behaviors in adulthood.
