Yes I totally agree. Saw Joe twice in the very early 90's. He was so casual and not pretentious or arrogant in the least. Never met him but I'll go out on a the limb of speculation and say he's simply a great person all around. Stu Hamm has the same vibe imo. Sorry for the long post.

Well he decided to alter and evolve the song when he could no longer play the actual solo from the original recording anymore. But I still love his improvs that he does around them, he still knows how to give that late 80's vibe when he wants.

@@JuanHughJorganhis types of songs are not necessarily suited to live play and each live performance has variation. Obviously he gives himself the latitude to change pieces. Thats the best thing is that they are 35 years old. Same musician, but with little changes. That keeps it interesting to me. No one stays the same forever. Not even one year to the next. But its amazing to keep that same original song structure and rhythm.

I was a teenager when this came out. I called into a radio station for the first time on a song from this album. 98 Rock WIYY, in Baltimore. They had a pass, or trash segment on one of the night shows, and one week it was Satch Boogie, which had just been released. Got to hear myself on the radio, after I voted. Still a music dork, all these years later. Had Surfing With the Alien on cassette. Much more than that... So much more... Look, he is one of the EXTREMELY FEW IN HISTORY, who can pull entire albums of instrumental songs and it's never boring, all main melodies, solos and riffs being perfectly memorable and soulful, more than half his songs are top hits, AND as he grows old he improves his tone and his play becomes more rich and templed, the current way he plays old songs is better than the originals... How many rock/blues musicians can claim that?
