Marlin was overprotective towards Nemo in Finding Nemo (2003) in a polite, calm and controlled, wise and nice and thought through way same for Dracula towards Mavis in Hotel Transylvania (2012) and King Triton towards Ariel in The Little Mermaid (1989) while Manny was overprotective towards Peaches in a mean-spirited, short-tempered, clueless and reckless way in Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) and Ice Age: Collision Course (2016).

Unless Manny did tell this to Peaches in her childhood offscreen at a certain point maybe before or after the events of A Mammoth Christmas (2011) like how Marlin revealed to Nemo presumably offscreen the deaths of his mother Coral and unborn siblings at the hands of a barracuda and why he is so overprotective around him to begin with in Finding Nemo (2003) and Dracula revealed to Johnny and Mavis the death his wife Martha at the hands of vampire prejudiced humans which caused him to hate them and become overprotective towards Mavis before being set right by Johnny, and Peaches already understands why her father is overprotective towards her but just gets angry when she feels like he is overdoing it to the point where he is too idiotic and pessimistic to realize not everything she does qualifies as being dangerous or deadly like Nemo did towards Marlin in Finding Nemo (2003) and Mavis did towards Dracula in Hotel Transylvania (2012).

⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠@@IndriidaeNT i think it’s just bad lol they added characters and then completely erase them or over-do it. like that one lil mole that was interested in peaches and her best friend? erased entirely despite his role in the previous movie. the nemo thing with all his kids is implied so it’s not really thrown down the drain like manny is. i wouldn’t consider a christmas short as legit either seeing as it wasn’t released in theaters and also manny refers to having a christmas rock as a child. which we know isn’t possible since he was orphaned, he wouldn’t have any family heirlooms as he was lost and separated from his family. it is simply just a relatable little short made by many different writers that not a lot of people would see compared to something official and in the box office. he is kind of stuck up and prudish in this movie, when previously he had opened up a lot since meeting his friends, and especially since being together with ellie and her siblings. in the previous movie where he acknowledges that she is a grown individual when peaches saves ellie. subsequently, he lets her go explore their new continent alone and says “she’s not my little girl anymore”. ellie is also usually more level headed individual who is the middle man between peaches and manny, but in this movie she goes full in with manny’s excessively protective ideations. “it’s just where the kids hang out. you are overacting, she’s not going to be your little girl forever” then in this movie she’s suddenly flips that awareness by trying to manipulate her daughter into feeling dependent on her and manny.

@@comfortme I know right, Manny was never overprotective towards Peaches In A Mammoth Christmas or The Great Egg Schpulne, he was just overprotective towards her in the fourth and fifth movies, they just gave Manny these personality traits and flanderization just to make a subplot out of it which feel like a rehash of Marlin and Dracula’s character arcs in Finding Nemo (2003) and Hotel Tyranslviana (2012) while Peaches’ character arcs are not rehashs of Nemo and Mavis and are pretty much original, well kind off. Marlin and Dracula are pessimistic overprotective but Manny is idiotically overprotective. What’s worse is that the producers in the fifth movie made Peaches cheat on and betray Louis and Ethan (When betraying and cheating on your loved ones is wrong, it must have made Louis and Ethan so heartbroken and would have caused Peaches to live with that guilt for the rest of her life.) and marry Julian instead also making Ethan absent and having Louis only appear as a cameo background character in the fifth movie. (But mostly due to his actor being unable to reprise him in the film due to being busy with The Angry Birds Movie (2016) but still.)

2:42 Manny was sorta on the brink of finally bonding with Julian and accepting him as his daughter’s son-in-law and their plans to move away after they marry and independently start a family of their own but Julian ruins it by accidentally insulting Manny by telling Peaches that he found a new hockey partner to replace her dad leading to a green-eyed monster Manny hitting Julian in the head with the hockey puck and him falling into the ice but does show remorse over it afterwards and later reconciles with Julian and helps him push the last crystal into the volcano to launch the crystals into space to attract away the asteroid and takes back all the bad things he said about him.

Ok the reason why Ice Age Collision course was Bad because the plot is a mess the Main Characters are Ruined and Useless Manny is a raging Psychopath who tried to sabotage their Daughter’s relationship when she is grown up to make her own decisions that she is like 21 years maybe he Keeps learning the same lesson in the previous movie but in this one it really destroyed his character Diego did slayed but barely spoke and was just there he was Pointless and Shira Sid well sid stupidly is Starting to be unfunny and boring and Just proposed to his ex girlfriend that we never got introduced But Granny And Buck Where entertaining crash And Eddie where just annnoying and the Rest of the Characters I just don’t care very boring and Annoying at this Point ice Age should’ve ended of 3 or 4

2:49 … Dracula never acted this way towards Johnny in the Hotel Transylvania franchise, he would never hit Johnny in the head with a hockey pick and injury him just because he is jealous of his relationship with his daughter Mavis, like Manny did to Julian in this movie. Dracula also has much better chemistry and a loving and bonding relationship with his daughter Mavis’s husband Johnny and her son and his grandson Dennis in the Hotel Transylvania franchise (Except in Transformia (2022) towards Johnny and Dracula due to the latter’s character derailment but he redeems himself at the end.) than Manny did towards Julian in Ice Age: Collision Course (2016), showing that Manny is a bigger overprotective, empty-nest syndrome-conflicted and mean-spirited father and anti-hero than Dracula is so Peaches had every right to yell at him for it although Manny redeems himself at the end and accepts Julian as his son-in-law like Dracula did towards Johnny in the first movie in the Hotel Transylvania franchise and his and Peaches’ plans to marry and move away and start a family of their own.

I don’t think it was his overprotectiveness towards Peaches that was the reason for him disapproving of Peaches’ plans to move away and explore the world and have kids afterwards in Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) because Manny already overcame his fear of losing Peaches like how he lost his first child in the fourth movie and realized she even as a teenager an age his first child never lived to be had the ability and strengths to protect herself from dangers and be independent all along and reconciled with her and accepted her independence similar to Marlin’s character development towards raising Nemo in Pixar’s Finding Nemo (2003), (It’s sequel, Finding Dory (2016) was released the same year as Collision Course and is honestly much better than that movie.) but rather empty-nest syndrome that was the reason towards Manny disapproving of Peaches marrying Julian and moving away and having kids of her own because Manny never experienced it before due to his first child never reaching full adulthood same for Ellie being a first time mother herself and with Peaches now grown up and leaving the nest and with Manny and Ellie having no other kids of their own to raise they were now left with no purpose but to live as distant retired grandparents after Peaches and Julian have kids and continue leading the Sub-Zero Heroes and Manny disapproving of Julian due to finding him too fun-loving and annoying to protect himself from danger like Peaches can but Julian’s actions in the climax prove it to him otherwise and cause Manny to change his mind about Julian and approve of him. Manny and Ellie were just lonely now that Peaches no longer spent time with them now that she was spending more time with Ethan, Louis and the Brat Pack with their unknown jobs or careers and planning to marry Julian and have kids with him. But Peaches, of course, did believe even after the incident involving Julian falling into the ice that overprotectiveness was the reason behind her father’s behavior and scolds and reprimands him for it. But at the end, Peaches realizes that empty-nest syndrome as the true reason behind her parents’ overly clingy behavior towards her and that her parents still need her and she still needs them and that a career as an adventurer with Ethan, Louis and the Brat Pack alongside Julian wasn’t a good choice after all due to all the dangers they can face in the way that their most recent adventure made her aware of so she apologizes to her parents including her father for her earlier behavior mentioned above willingly agreeing to stay with the herd after marrying Julian for as long as they wish but Manny and Ellie having finally got over their empty-nest syndrome and made peace with Peaches’ decision to marry Julian and move away with him have kids with him and as an adventurer explore the world with Louis, Ethan and the Brat Pack encourage Peaches to follow her dreams and goals anyway despite the consequences she faces in the process reassuring her that they and the rest of the herd will always be there waiting in Herd Valley in case they decide to return.
