1996 was one of the most dangerous years in hip hop. So many crazy beefs going on, with all the best at the time, sadly it came crashing down.

So many people here have the wrong information. It goes like this simply. 1. Ice Cube wanted to hire Cypress Hill to play the Cholos in the hit movie “Friday”. He also wanted them to use a new song from their album in the movie because at the time Cypress Hill was very big, even overseas. Unfortunately Cypress Hill declined the offer because they had a tour for their new album and because of scheduling issues they couldn’t do it. 2. Cypress Hill was very close friends with Ice Cube, B Real went as far as to see Ice Cube as a brother. So because of this B Real decided to let Ice Cube come to the studio so he can have the honor to be the first person to hear the new songs on their album at the time “Cypress Hill III: Temples of Boom”. This is when Ice Cube fell in love with their single for the album “Throw Your Set in the Air” and asked them if he could use that song in the movie “Friday”. Cypress Hill thought about it but then they realized that “Throw Your Set in the Air” was a really good single and they wanted to promote that song for their album because they knew it was going to be a banger and blow up. So Ice Cube asked if he could listen to their songs one more time before leaving. 3. Fast forward to the movie “Friday” coming out and Ice Cube made and released the song “Friday” like the title of the movie to promote it while also putting in the hook “Throw Your Neighborhood in the Air” in the song. Cypress on tour at the time got wind of the song and felt like Ice Cube stole their hook “Throw Your Set in the Air” but altered it a little. When Cypress Hill comes back to the states from touring, B Real hits up Ice Cube and asked him why he bit off their hook which then Ice Cube told B-Real that he didn’t bite their hook he was just inspired by it and that rappers always use inspiration from other artist and mix it up. Ice Cube was playing it as an innocent act of inspiration so B-Real trusting Cube as a brother he believed him. 4. Later on Ice Cube has B-Real come over to listen to a few songs that Ice Cube was working on at the time and that’s when B-Real heard more bars and hooks stolen from his new album “Cypress Hill III: Temples of Boom”. From B-Real’s point of view he says that Ice Cube noticed that B-Real noticed his lines being stolen so when B-Real left the room to handle some business on the phone, B-Real stated that when he returned into the room that the stolen bars that he heard before had been removed confirming that Ice Cube stole his some of his stuff. 5. This is when B-Real went back into the studio and decided to create and add the song “No Rest for the Wicked” dissing Ice Cube. Upon hearing this Ice Cube released the song from the album “Bow Down” titled “King of the Hill” dissing Cypress Hill back which was formed from the group “West Side Connection” excluding WC as he didn’t want to be apart of the beef because of his neutral respect for Cypress Hill and Ice Cube. Cypress Hill responded using the same beat as Ice Cube’s “King of the Hill” dissing him back and even included a rapper named Shag who had a voice that resembled Ice Cube so that it seemed like Ice Cube was dissing himself. Although it was a cool concept and Shag’s voice did fit the beat, he clearly wasn’t as good lyrically as Ice Cube was, but that’s my opinion. 6. At some point as their beef hit the streets and started to slowly separate fans and gangs, a Rapper/Actor named Solo or Shawn Fonteno pulled up on Ice Cube at a red light, the two men argued a little back and fourth and that’s when the altercation initiated and Solo knocked out Ice Cube. Solo then wakes Ice Cube back up and proceeds to beat on him more which after he then jacks his Westside Connection Chain and his Rolex. At this point Solo (being on Cypress Hill’s side) brings the Chain to Cypress Hill and they end up flossing the Chain at a concert dissing Ice Cube and Westside Connection and even took pictures with it. 7. Ice Tea later on addresses the situation and made a plea for Cypress Hill and Ice Cube to squash the beef because the street started going into war over it. There was violence created by the segregation of their beef. There were even people from the Black Community fighting against the people from the Hispanic Community. The Mexican Mafia even got included and decided to back up Cypress Hill. The streets in numbers were bigger for Cypress Hill causing Ice Cube to fear that many will die including him, (even stated by Cube himself) so he decides to call up Cypress Hill and they have a meeting and squashed the beef (even with Mac 10). 8. In retrospect we all have our opinions and even though this is the summary of what happened there will always be different sides to a story but at least everything I said here was documented and said by the individuals themselves. Whether you’re more of a Cypress Hill fan or Ice Cube fan it doesn’t change the actual facts of what took place historically. Having a blindsided opinion doesn’t change what happened. Ice Cube got caught stealing stuff from Cypress Hill, Cypress Hill had more better critic reviews for their diss songs than Ice Cube, Ice Cube was knocked out by Solo aka Shawn Fonteno and got his Chain and his Rolex taken and the streets included the Mexican Mafia got involved and sided with Cypress Hill. Wether you think “King of the Hill” was better doesn’t change the majority’s opinion. At the end of the day more people gave the W to Cypress Hill and with everything thrown on the table it’s clear why they did. I love Ice Cube, I even like Ice Cube’s music more than Cypress Hill but even as a fan I’m not oblivious to the truth and the factual evidence. You’re more than allowed to feel like Ice Cube won (it’s a free country) and you can like “King of the Hill” more than “No Rest for the Wicked” and “Ice Cube Killa” if you want. It’s not a sin to like what you want. The only thing that’s ignorant is ignoring the evidence, being a bigger fan of Cube and putting out there that he won and that Cypress Hill got murdered when in fact that is further from the truth.
