Ice Fishing for Walleye at Starvation Reservoir

Walleye can be caught all year on soft water. But can you catch them through the ice? Absolutely! To try it for ourselves, we joined the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources biologists and friends to Starvation Reservoir where they showed us how to do it. Along the way we caught a ton of rainbow trout until the walleye bite hit when the sun went down. It was fast, fun fishing for a species not often considered for catching through the ice.

im going up there next week. Looking for Smallies. When does the lake usually freeze over. In Oklahoma I Bass fish year round. Not used to that thick ice thanks.

Late December/early January is about when you can expect a freeze-over. Depends on how winter starts.

Start keeping them rainbows and let them walleye grow up... Stoc king trout in Quail Lake has pretty much destroyed it for bass fishing. Them trout hunt in packs and can wipe out 90 % of the bass fry. Sad to see how poorly they manage that lake.

Utah DWR doesn't care about bass, hopefully that will change someday

Does it really take 3 DWR personnel to guide Adam? Your license fees at "work." I sure would like a regular DWR guided trips throughout the year.
