ICE FISHING Whitefish & Burbot + Surprise catch FIRST EVER

Big day ice fishing on Lake Simcoe, I caught white fish, burbot plus a big surpise catch Ive never caught through the ice out here before.

Funny thing is I stopped to fish this spot because of fall Smallmouth waypoints I have already marked there. I know there's rock piles there so I thought would be good for Whitey's and Lakers and figured the bass would be gone but I guess not!

So Callum, I did subscribe to your channel without reading the fine print or fully understanding the criteria. On further examination it seems you must be cool and like fishing. I indeed like fishing and now know that I'm cool. This has raised my self esteem and should improve my fishing success. Video idea? Is it true to say the expression "location, location, location" also applies to ice fishing? And the challenge for the average person is where do I drill the hole when not knowing the lake well. I would say that most ice fishers are not on Lake Simcoe during the summer. A frozen lake gives everyone the opportunity to access the lake but lacking knowledge of the lake topography. How does the average guy address this issue?

good question. I know as a new ice fisherman it was the hardest thing for me to figure out. I will say, IMHO, for simcoe - the answer is ALWAYS shoals. it's the only thing the lake has going for it - that's where all the food is. You can find fish in other locations but shoals will be your best best when Ice Fishing for whitefish, lakers and the burbs.

Yes what Orillia Fishing said. Shoals and humps are key structures to focus on. Location is paramount for fishing in general. Figuring out an unfamiliar lake is a daunting task for anyone.

We catch smallmouth bass through the ice here in North Bay it's not uncommon the season for them is open in the winter.

It's very thiccc about a foot of ice offshore, bit less close to shore.

Burbot are delicious, freshwater ling cod, they call them poor man's lobster and the best recipe I know to get the lobster texture/taste is boil the flesh in sprite till fully cooked then serve with garlic butter.

I honestly don't think I could do it lol what about all the coarse species like carp, Bullhead, bowfin, suckers. Oh there's crappie too. I think whitefish, burbot, Lake trout, Perch, Pike would be more possible. Oh theres rockbass too. Gotta draw the line somewhere lol maybe could be done in like 3 days and wrap that into one video. Would be alot of driving to different sections of the lake.

The only reason i mentioned that idea is we fish the niagara river throughout the winter and getting a grand slam ( all 3 trout , brown ,laker and rainbow and a walleye) is what we challenge ourselves with each time we go out.@@happygofishingtv
