You’re welcome, you know I still love snowshoeing and man hauling toboggans for winter camping but I’ve gotten into a snowmobile tip as of late. Much of it has to do with having the kids and wanting to bring them along. I’ve started a pretty heavy exercise regime and feel about 10 years younger but it’s hard to muster the energy of 30 year old me.
@davidrobertson6068 күн бұрын
@@JimBairdAdventurer A minimum level of fitness is required for outdoor actives you far exceed that. We are in our late 70ies have a jetboat and do northern rivers. I had a good friend that want to join us. Rule is you must be able to do 10 sit up, 5 push ups and 2 chin ups. He asked why. How do you expect to get out of a tent after sleeping on the ground or pull yourself back on the boat if you fall in the water. He did not come with us. It is good you are showing your children the outdoors. Some day do a vlog on items that make outdoor camping easier for not so physically fit individuals.

Those smaller trout lakes almost always have at least a small stream running through them. Always first fish where the stream exits the lake. It's always the most fertile part of the lake. Think of it as most of the nutrients of the lake being funneled down to that narrower pinch point. Second fish obvious points extending into the lake or rocky shorelines and along tall steep ridges alongside the water. Good Luck! I can see that over the years you're becoming a better fisherman. Gotta be setting up for trout before it's light out and then enjoy an early lunch if you want to be really successful. Good episode.

Awesome man! Beautiful fish. I spent many a summer day as a teen hanging out a store there at the base where my buddy and I were friendly with a couple of girls who worked there. Buddy's parents leased a site there for years on MacDonald Lake but he and would take off with our tent, sleeping bag and can of baked beans and granola bars or something hike miles to any unoccupied site we could find - even as far as Wildcat Lake; Memories of running the trails with my dog and all the freedom of youth hood in the late 60's and 70's before heading off to college and life as an adult. Those were great days.

Cool good times, your first giveaway you don’t do this often is you used fresh wood right off a living tree, you need to look for deadwood deadfall dry wood, live and learn. I did an ice fishing Haliburton trip too about 10 days ago, but I sleep in my SUV. 2 days no splake, the 3rd a nice eater walleye out of a lake trout lake, surprised. I also use salted minnows to tip jigs, nice fish cheers 🎉

Jim you asked me about pine boughs for lake crossings and slush. Well you have now hit slush and needed a 2nd machine to get out. Could he got out on his own? My point was you load up the family and hit that slush with 1000+ lbs of sled and hundreds more in the toboggan ...... in the dark it's now serious. I've seen it and being prepared and not getting into the situation in the 1st place is key. I saw a foot of snow, wait for a year with deep snow like 3 feet. We were in a snow belt. Small lakes the wind doesn't blow off the snow like a big lake in the Yukon. Wish my kids had the passion for remote adventures like you do. Can't force that stuff. They enjoy our summer week of back backcountry camping and fall/winter hot tenting. I had a yukon tent for many years and few years ago bought the Kodiak 12x12 and a camp chef stove. They have a pot and spigot that sits on stove for hot water. Side water tanks are $, heavy and cumbersome. I'll never go without a floor again. lol Use it in a provincial forest for fall hunting and star/aurora photography. I take a drill and lag bolts for screwing into frozen ground. Bonus to that is you can get an adapter to use with your hand auger. I have a 6" swede bore with milwaukee for backcountry fishing. I've run a jiffy white lighting for 25 years. 10" for early ice and 8" when the wet stuff is 40" thick. :) Some suggestions. Use them at your own pace. lol Sit down when backing up. If you feel you have to stand then do it from the side like you were when backing up onto the lake or if you are stuck. Truthfully as an old dude that never had reverse until 2000 I would suggest always keeping a place to move forward. I have seen 2 instances where the person became unbalanced and had their right thigh forced forward into the throttle. One of them was backing off the trailer as you did and a studded 700 triple 2-up ended up on it's side with owner going to hospital for 2 cracked ribs. It flipped him off with impressive force into other sleds. A lightweight lithium start pack would be beneficial should the battery need help. Always wear your lanyard. stuck throttles/computer glitch happen. Careful driving up rocky shorelines without snow. Your pogo front end helps with no A-arms to grab stuff but crawl under and see where your coolers are. Doo used to be up front and hitting them is bad or spitting up a rock or chunk of ice. I have 2 vexilar fl-20's and a fl-12. Flat face so you can see it from the side. They fit in pails and I get a week with a 9ah battery. Less if I use the 12 volt socket to power the canvas tent ceiling fan. Sure the LCD screens are nice but are power hogs. I have a cut down pail mounted to the back of my sled for hole hopping with black abs pipe for ice rods. Nice to have 4 so you can quickly change from a spoon to a jig. All fit into a cheap double rifle case for safe transport. No need to drill a hole either to check depth or fish. If it's clear ice and no frozen slush just clear the snow away and pour a little water on the ice. Place the transducer on the water and it will shoot thru just fine. Can pick up depth and fish. Not sure you were using spring bobbers. I like the snap on flat spring steel ones. Dab of CA once placed. Less icing up. Lots of fish will come up at the bait and mouth it and continue up. The spring bobber shows this and you can set the hook. Add to that the flasher being real time it catches more fish. Tip-ups are good too for setup and forget. Check rules but allowed so many feet away. No worries if you are attentive to them. I cut up a firelog for starting and bring a few good dry pieces to start a fire. You can jam some of that in the stove. Smoke and CO2 detector stays in the kodiak tent bag. Tent has 2 vents up top both ends I leave them open and condensation is not bad. One of the most dangerous times sledding can be on a trail with lots of hanging snow dust. If it's calm it restricts visibility with the snow dust not being cleared away, if at night it can be deadly. Had a death years ago when the trail turned to go around a concrete bridge tower. 1st guy had clear air. 2nd guy noticed just in time but sadly the 3rd guy drove thru the snow dust straight into it at speed. All that to say put good reflectors on the boggan back and sides and sled. Family first. You will find the same idiots on the trail possible imbibing too much as on the road so being seen is important. Boggan blocks your tail light too. You have a light on your helmet but wait til you see how fast one disappears on a dark trail in front of you. And last with your reach put out a request for a good 250cc single for the kids to play on. Tundra or bravo. My first sled was a 85 tundra 250. Had a tundra II 270 and it was the very best for opening up trails if we had a heavy fall dusting. Lightweight, not enough power to spin the track. Jim you ride that like a jet ski on water in 2 feet of powder carving the turns and the smile will take days to wear off. I used to put my right leg on the sleds left running board holding my left leg out into the abyss and just do circle after circle. This guy does it one handed. lol 30" ski stance has its advantages and best part when you get stuck you just stomp down 3 feet of snow in front, lift the back and go. Haha All the best to you and your family. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6DCgKiLjLSliKcfeature=shared

Haha, well the cooler works in reverse in the winter, preventing all my stuff from freezing solid while I’m out of the tent in the day. Mainly it kept my eggs and cream from freezing solid which would have been a pain. That’s why I had to take the fish out of it on the last day as I actually wanted to fish to freeze.
