I'm now fifty-four years old, and since my late teens or early twenties I've wanted to create a fictional culture of *ice sailor tribes.* For a novel, a role-playing game, a comic book... I almost didn't care, I just want my ice sailor tribes. They would live in scattered habitable areas (oasis? islands?) in an otherwise frozen wasteland and ice boats would be their primary means of transport. Think of them as Inuit with ice boats instead of dogs, or Laplanders with ice boats instead of reindeer. Think of them as "frozen Polynesians," as if the mariners who first discovered Hawaii had missed and wound up in Alaska or Siberia instead, and adjusted to the cold. Currently, I've got them on a tide-locked planet, with a frozen nightside where the sun never rises. We'll see if I make anything of it at last.

Hmmmm.... I'm Totally not blatantly stealing this idea down for my own use in building interesting locations for ttrpg settings

@@scruffles3838 Good luck with it. I've managed to get the queen abducted and the king is being dragged behind the boat on a rope, trying to pull himself aboard so he can rescue her. I've got two young lovers making their escape through a chaotic terrain, with their pursuers crashing into house-sized chunks of ice (think Han Solo's asteroid field). I've got the queen teaching J-pop to a bunch of bundled-up children; this will later become a clue for the king, letting him know his wife has been there.

This looks like a pure rush! I come from the land of ice and snow. I have all the components to build one, and this coming summer, figure I'll try to throw something together. Ya gotta have something to do in the winter... I don't care if it takes all summer to do it.. Excellent video, thanks for the inspiration.

Build it right and have wheels for summer and skates for winter! There are old style ones with a jib too.

@@olivei2484 Wheels? Summertime, I'll take the mast and sail and put it back on the boat I borrowed it from. Sail on.

This should be an Olympic sport!

The Winter Games aren't as crowded with events as the Summer Games. There's room for this. I'd love to see it.

Is it possible that people in the ice age use ice yachting to go on other parts of the world?
