Those tires at that tread depth are a summer tire. Been there done that.

Sergei, you must roll your rig back and forth before setting your brakes when parking overnight on soft snow! Tires are hot from driving so they melt the snow below them, which forms ice patches just below them.

Several Fire Departments along with Ambulance service here in Upstate New York use On Spot automatic chains they are good for up 6-7 inches of snow on the road. My Truck I use single wheel chains on the duals if necessary. As a Volunteer Firefighter my district has a lot of steep hills and narrow streets with ditches on both sides. Winter driving is a great way to learn just how good of a driver you are. Stay safe watching for the other drivers.

The farm tractor had an actual snow blower on the front. Great for out in the country as it moves the snow well away and reduces the amount that the next wind deposits on the road. Also good for loading snow on trucks to haul away.
@ralfus373 жыл бұрын
My solution was to park on my chains and also keep a 5 gallon bucket of cement powder to give traction on ice. Hot tires and brake drums are winter problems. Never set parking brakes on trailers, just tractor.

Stop your truck where wanna park overnight just don't set your brakes. Roll the truck few feet forward and then backwards a couple times, and park it at the same spot you chose earlier.

When you shut down, your tires are warm. All this does is melt the snow and ice underneath them and you sink. If you have them, try parking on flat boards.

@forwardplans81683 жыл бұрын
If you don't have regular tire chains, you can lay a log chain in a zig-zag fashion in front of the front drivers. Use the diff lock to ensure all 4 duals will turn, otherwise the front driver will crawl up onto the chain, gain traction, then the other duals will just spin. You can also run the logchain through the holes in the rim and wrap them around both tires. You might not have room with the fenders, and be sure the chain clears all brake and framework. Most Home Depot or lowes have 50lb bags of sand. Make sure all the trailer tires have correct air pressure. Cold low air tires will hold you back. Carry a grain shovel with you, with your rig, be prepared to spin out, lose traction, going up some hill in the middle of no-where.

Your going to think I’m crazy but the best stuff to get unstuck is windshield washer fluid. Pour it on top of the tires and let it run down through the tread. It works it way under the tire. Pour a little in front of the tires, wait a few min and drive away. Liquid tow truck.

Sergei, remove exhaust stacks and replace with pipes that come out just in front of both left and right drive tyres, heat from exhaust will melt snow/ ice when you park up for the night, warm up the truck in the morning will melt any snow/ ice built up overnight giving traction added bonus when driving the exhaust melts snow /ice giving better traction resulting in better miles per gallon.

Oil dry would be much cheaper than kitty litter and its basically the same , less the anti clumping additives and fragrances I beleive , i guess the problem would be it usually comes in a 50 lb bag , storing it on a truck may be an issue. Myself I believe I would try to carry that & some salt and use a combination , but then again , I'm no expert. Everything is harder in the winter , especially with the snow. Drive it how you like (under 1500 is hard on the cylinder liners)...1100rpm is 400hp, 1300 is 475, 1550 is 550, 1700 is 605. Top lever position is overdrive and move the button another overdrive...running empty gears. One lever shift down on the high side is direct...less throttle, less turbo boost, less fuel burned....running loaded gears. Never realized you were lugging that engine that bad...true the torque starts at 1100...but the horsepower is way down and so is the throttle, and boost is maxed. 1550-1700 would give better results. Drain water off Davco filter end of every day.

Question : would shifting your load forward to put a bit more drive weight help you in snow?
@HHTV603 жыл бұрын
you have to look at the distance between the trailer's kingpin and center of the jeep's tires (1), and then from the trailer's kingpin to the jeep's kingpin (2). the way these spacings are set up on most jeeps (including mine), the weight from the trailer is split something like 60/40 - if the trailer's kingpin has 100,000 LB, only 40K will go onto the truck. The rest will go on the jeep. But in theory, yeah - when you haul on 9 axles, you always try to load more to the front because the rear only has 4 axles, where the front has 5. The reason I loaded to the back was because I picked this up with a 8 axle rig, and Ohio only allowed 60K on the truck's rear 3 axles. I should have moved the machine when I hooked up the jeep, but I didn't want to start the old CAT and remove and then reconnect all the chains. It's a huge machine!

Just curious as to why you took the backroads around north east side of city and then up nbr 6 to take a grid road to nbr 11. The 4 lane bypass around south side of city to join nbr 11 nw of Regina was built so truckers would have easy transition around city to get to Saskatoon and Edmonton. Lots of heavy haul truckers use it now

That twin left turn off the East end of #1/Victoria Ave and up the sharp turn ramp onto the bypass would be a nightmare with his length. The traffic there never seems light enough to allow him to use both lanes safely. Last time I was through they were working on an improvement further East- maybe that is complete and usable by now.

I don't know how you missed that when he explained it quite clearly in the video. He said that if he'd chosen to take the freeway route he would have had to have an engineer's assessment before getting approval to travel and that would have delayed him by two hours, whereas, there was no such assessment required for the alternate route and so he was able to move immediately once a fee was paid.
