Respect Radu! I did ice swimming a few days ago in a mountain lake in Austria (Weißensee) and I am surprised how good you trained your breathing to stay so calm 👏 I could not resist to breathe heavily at least a few times.

Cool! I find it much easier after doing some exercise. Body seems to really want to relax at that point.

Ugh I can't imagine such a low temperature! It's crazy to think that you can swim so easily in that hahahha I would be screaming a lot hahhah

Probably first time I did it I was screaming as well :-D at least on the inside ;-) depending who else was there 😂

The coldest water I tried to swim in is 13 degrees Celsius, it was cold. A stormy rainy summer day actually, the air was only 10 degrees. We rarely have lakes frozen in Denmark, could be like 10 years between we can go ice skating. Yesterday we had +10 degrees, so not really winter temperatures.

Oh, wow... were there waves? And did you have a sauna nearby? :-D Wind can make it feel worse than negative temperatures, really...

Hello :-) always passing through there (by train) when going to Helsinki, but I never visited. All I know it's also called 'Villmanstrand' (because the 'train voice' says so :-D)

I would be very afraid that the pumps would fail and I would end up frozen

Nothing will happen for quite a while. When I go ice fishing and make a small hole, it usually takes many hours for it to freeze only a tiny bit at the surface. But ice will start forming around the edge, and it can be very thin, floating on the surface. So think, that it's razor sharp and you can get cut if not careful.

I got cold 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶just looking ...😂😂I say this, because here in the region where I live in BRAZIL , when it makes 15 C, we do not leave the house, and it is all covered with so much clothes. The normal temperature here is around 35 C. I think you from FINLAND would melt here .😂😂👍

:-)) I'm used to those temperatures as well (I'm originally from Romania, and summers there can be quite hot).

How does it feel spiritually? like in such low temperature, diving into a cold lake and staying there for a few minutes? I can't even think about doing it, my heart would stop working even in my thoughts. 😵💫
@Radu2 күн бұрын
I'm quite sure it feels different for different people... because even for me it can feel different depending on the day. Usually, if I exercise beforehand, it feels 'normal'. Body is quite warm internally and just feels refreshing. But if I'm not really 'in the mood' I might feel a bit scared, or wishing to get it over with quickly... I just know that if I do it, I get an energy boost for the rest of the day. I think most people do it in the evenings, though, and alternate between the cold and long sauna sessions, so, they basically get ready for sleep :-) everyone has their own style, I think.

For warm climate people like us, even in 5C leaving the home with inadequate clothing (read thick undershirt, sweater AND a coat) is unimaginable let alone walking shirtless in -10C and jumping in the 1C water. Imagine instant coffin dance.

As long as the water has KINETIC ENERGY, it won't freeze. It needs to dissipate it's energy first if someone is interested in some physics keywords to search more.
